Udupi : District level the felicitation for Garodi Gurikars (Chiefs) and get Convention of prominent personalities will be held on Sunday, 23^rd April at Udupi Town Hall from 9am.

Speaking with media persons during the press meet held at Diana Hotel here on Tuesday, 11^th April, 2017 Achuyth Amin Kalmady Hon. President of Billava Yuva Vedike Udupi said that there are 163 garodis in Udupi district and about there are 1500 gurikars. First time in the history of Udupi which is felicitating these large number of gurikars? The main reason to felicitating programme is to identifying them in general.

Out of 163 garodis, about 70 garodis are in good condition, remaining remaining need repairs. Some of the garodis have not proper approach road especially in Karkala areas. District Billava Vedike here before approached the district administration that there is no such specific fund to be provided to garodis. In fact there has no such provision to give grant or fund to garodis. The working of garodis did not get monthly pension. When S.M. Krishna was in power the attempt to provide them with pension was made and pension was provided under category of artistes.

During the convention, Seminars on importance of gurikaras in Billava Community, the heroic message of the legendary twin heroes of Tulunadu, Koti and Chennaya, The contribution of Koti Chennaya to the culture of Tulunadu would be organized during the convention.

There are four seminars to be held and resource persons are Bannanje Baby Amin, Gananath Yekkar, Ganesh Amin Sankamar and Kudi Vasanth Shetty, Amin said.

The programme to be inaugurated by B. K. Hariprasad Rajya Sabha member. V. Sunil Kumar Karkala MLA will deliver key note address during the inaugural programme.

Pramod Madhwaraj Minister for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports will preside over the valedictory programme. Kagodu Thimmappa Minister for Revenue, Shobha Karandlaje Udupi Chickmagluru Member of Parliament, Gopala Poojary MLA, Dinkar Babu ZP President, Janardhan Tnonse ZP member, Yashpal Suvarna President of D.K. & Udupi Fisheries Federation, Raju Poojary Byndoor former President of Udupi Zilla Panchayat, K. Udayakumar Shetty BJP leader, Suryouday Perampalli Actor, Producer, Director, Kiran Kumar Bailoor former President of Udupi CMC are the guests.

Around five thousand people were expected to participate in the conference and certain facility has been organized during the conference both in and out of Town hall, Udupi.
