Udupi : Rs. 11.66 crore of the 13^th Finance Commission Project was returned to central government without using that amount for the development, said Taluk Panchayt member Sudhir Kumar Shetty.

He was raised the issue during the monthly general meeting of Udupi Taluk Panchayat on Wednesday, 26^th April at Taluk Panchayat Sabha Bhavan said that 13^th Finance Commission amount returned without using it in Zilla Panchayat, Taluk Panchayat and Grama Panchayats. He also argued that the interest amount also send back to the centre. Replying on the issue, the officials said that only Rs. 3 lakhs only returned back and other amount spent for the development works. The opposition members also joined on the issue and asked the clarifications from the officials.

Dinakar Heroor said that there are about 44 government job vacancies in taluks and only 3-4 posts are filled and taluk panchayats running with acute shortage of workers. Replying to Nalini Pradeep Rao President of Taluk Panchayat said she had personally meeting with H. K. Patil, Urban Development Minister of the state and informed about the shortage of workers in taluk panchayat.

Laxminarayana Prabhu member asked about the tender of shops at Bommarabettu not done and President has given stay order to tender without his any knowledge. Nalini Pradeep Rao said due to chances of violence, she had no choice but to give stay order for the tender of said shops. Laxminaryana Prabhu asked the chair to tender at least once in three years.

There will 12 nominated presidents appointed for attending meeting of the taluk panchayat. They are from Kadekar, Billadi, Badanidiyoor, Padubidri, Sasthan, Heggunje, Belle, Kodibettu, Kota, Belapu, Kodi and Kokkarne.

Sudhir Shetty asked MESCOM officials that there is no official line man in Brahmavar area and asked to arrange the line man as soon as possible.

Bhujanga Shetty member said that the water from Varahi project can divert to Sitha River, so that the remaining part of the Udupi district can avail the water for drinking purpose. Udupi district has facing severe shortage of drinking water due to drought situation. Replying to Maheshchandra, Tahsildar said that regarding the issue the meeting was held with DC and district in-charge minister.

Prior to the meeting the cheques and stitching machines and other benefits distributed. Nalini Pradeep Rao presided over the meeting. Rajesh Pandubettu Vice president, Sarvotham Udupa acting CEO, Neetha Gururaj standing committee president and other officials were present.
