Udupi : Keeping environment clean, we can control several diseases and could possible to establish disease free society, Dinakar Babu, President of Zilla Panchayat.

He was addressing after observing World Malaria Day 2017 at Indian Medical Association Hall at Udupi on 27^th April, 2017 which was organized by District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Health and Family Empowerment Department.

He said the health department nurses should provide awareness on Malaria, Denque and other disease to the society with visiting houses, so that we can eliminate such diseases. Meanwhile certain publicity needed to avoid Malaria and other diseases by the mass media.

Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje presided over the programme. Zilla Panchayat Vice President Sheela K. Shetty, the guest of honour also spoke on the World Malaria Day.

Prior to the inauguration of the programme, District Health Official Dr. Rohini said in his key note address that we have been National Frame Work for Malaria elimination goals which eliminate malaria through out the district by 2022 and maintain malaria free status in areas where malaria transmission has been interrupted and prevent reintroduction of malaria. She said the objectives of National Frame Work for malaria elimination that eliminate malaria from all category, Reduce the incidence of malaria, Interrupt indigenous transmission and Prevent the re-establishment of local transmission.

She said that in 2012 there were 2217 cases of malaria reported and in the year 2016 the number of cases were reduced to 1168 in Udupi district.

Malaria is a potentially fatal mosquito borne parasitic disease which is curable. The malaria disease transmitted by female Anopheles mosquitoe, malaria parasites inhabit and destroy a person’s nlood cells following an initial developmental period of 10-14 days in the liver. Symptoms include fevers, intense headaches, vomiting, body-shaking cells and other flu like symptoms. Without treatment, malaria can lead to anemia, hypoglyeemia, celebral malaria, coma and death.

Dr. Premanand District Various Diseases Control official welcomed the gatherings. Krishnappa proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Madhusudan Naik President of IMA, Udupi and other officials were present.

The students of Government Junior Health assistants training centre, Ajjarkad, Udupi, New City College of Nursing, Udupi, Vidhyarathna School of Nursing, Chayvana Institute of Para Medical Sciences, Udupi and Lombard Memorial School of Nursing, Udupi were present.

Prior to the programmes the Jatha procession began with Our Lady of Sorrows Church campus which was inaugurated by Nalini Pradeep Rao President of Udupi Taluk Panchayat. The procession was culminated at IMA Bhavan, Brahmagiri, Udupi
