Udupi : Women is more pathetic, compassionate and religious minded than men. There is close relation of women and temple and her role in social empowerment great than men, said Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister for Fisheries, Sports and Youth Empowerment.

He was in his inaugural address of the fifth anniversary of the Convention of Women Organization of Udupi Diocese (Shtree Sangaton) at the St. Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady near here on Friday, 28^th April, 2017.

He said since five years after the erection of new Udupi diocese the role of women as well as youths of the community has been appreciated. Women along with their domestic responsibilities involved in community and prayer. Due to that it is sure that they will enrich the family life. Christian women in the diocese provide their services in self help groups and in the political fields also.

Pramod said that the empowerment of women needed in the society. They should participate in the local gram panchayat, taluk or municipal elelctions. If necessary,  women can participate in MLA and MP elections also.

His Lordship Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi diocese presided over the convention programme. Bishop said that successful programmes lead to success in the associations. Women Association of the diocese succeeded with their marvelous achievements through their various services to the community. Catholic women should think about success with establishing financial Bank.

Bishop said that women along with other associations of the community should serve for the betterment and empowerment of the society. Women should encourage their children to get top government jobs. He called women to increase the membership in women organization.

Bishop felicitated women achievers in politics during the occasion. They were Veronica Cornelio, Meena Lorin Pinto, Jean Mary Oliveira, Shaila D’Souza, Lanny Fernandes and Veera D’souza. Meanwhile former Presidents of association, Leena Roche, Violet Castelino, Jenifer D’Souza and Smitha Ranger were felicitated. Former Spiritual Director Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca and Convener Sr. Treza Martis also felicitated. Meanwhile Rev Fr. Ronald Cutinho and Cathrine Rodrigues lyrics were felicitated. Sunitha D’Souza felicitated for her achievement in sports.

Earlier Rev Fr. Reginald Pinto Spiritual Director of Women Association conducted the invocation prayer. President Irene Periera President of Women’s Association of the diocese welcomed the gatherings. Cynthia D’ Souza Secretary placed the brief report for the academic year. Benedict Fernandes proposed vote of thanks.

Very Rev Mosgr. Baptist Menezes Vicar General of Udupi diocese, Very Fr. Fredrick Masarenhas Dean of Udupi Deanary, Rev Fr. Ronald Cutinho, parish priest of Kateel church and Sr. Treeza Martis Convener of Women’s Association were present during the inaugural programme.

Judith Fernandes, Vinaya D’Costa, Sunitha D’Souza, Quini Mary and Agnes Mathias compered the programme.

At the end interaction programme on Women in society (Mukli Disha Thevshi Chomkonchi Shtree) led by Swetha Rasquino, Concepta Alva and Mary Shresta in different topics. This programme convened by Veronica Cornelio.

After the lunch, cultural programme organized by Kallianpur, Karkala, Udupi and Kundapura deaneries women associations with dance, jokes, short skits and so on.
