Udupi : International level ‘Kali Kayak Festival’ will be held at Aveda Village in Joida taluk of Uttara Kannada district from 2^nd June to 4^th June, 2017.

Speaking with media persons at Udupi Press Club on Wednesday, 31^st May, Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister for Sports and Youth Empowerment said that the Department of Youth Affairs and Tourism in association with the General Thimmayya National Academy of Adventure (GETHNAA) will organize the first time in the state was holding the festival on the Kali which is an initiative to place the State on the International stage with respect to adventure sports circuit.

In order to give support for the adventure habit to youth of the state and support tourism in the state, the international level Kali Kayak festival was organized. Prior to in Ganga river, Malabar in Kerala and Meghalaya state this type of adventurous sport held in the country and Karnataka presently to organized fourth in the country, he said.

The Kali is dam fed with the Supa Dam close by and possessed a 10 km stretch on which white water kayaking competition will be held. Minister said that the event will be divided into three categories: beginners – to attract participants who have never kayaked; Intermediate – for recreational kayakers and budding athletes; and Professional: for professional kayakers.

He said that already 127 registered in the kayaking sports competition which includes foreign countries like Australia and New Zealand.

Mr Pramod Madhwaraj said the department had already drawn up tentative calendar for promotion of adventure sports activities which will begin with the KKF. This will be followed by Bangalore Boulder Championship on 4^th and 5^th August, Sailing Regatta at Vani Vilas Sagar at Chitradurga on 26^th and 27^th August, Dasara Sahasotsava on 19^th to 30^th September, Badami Rock Festival from 27^th to 29^th October, Nandi Adventure Festival from 16^th to 17^th December, Udupi Adventure Festival from 16^th to 17^th December, Yadgir Adventure Festival on 6^th January and 7^th January 2018, Avathi Bouldering Festival on 20^th January and 21^st January 2018 and Asia Cup Sport Climbing Competition on 9^th February and 10^th January 2018.

Minister said that in order to give support for the sports in Udupi district, we thinking adventurous sports will be held at Mannapalla at Manipal and Malpe Padukere near future. Malpe Padukere beach will be developed for adventures like sports events and Malpe beach will be used to tourists.
