Udupi : The Junior Swamiji of Pejawar Math, Sri Sri Vishwaprasannha Theertha was flagged off “Kasargod Chalo” rally organized by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) from Udupi Clock Tower to Kasargod on Friday, 8^th June, 2017. The said rally was organized against the Kerala Government’s move to make Malayalam language compulsory in schools. The rally started from Udupi via Mulki, Mangaluru and Talapady.

Speaking to protesters at Udupi, Junior Swamiji of Pejawar Math said that the Kerala government decision to choose Malayalam language in schools as medium of education not correct. The leaders of various in favour of Kannada should take the issue seriously and solved the problems which Kannadigas facing seriously with the state governments and take the steps to protect the interest of their language. He believes that Karnataka Rakshana Vedike will succeed to their intention in order to get the interest of Kannada speaking people at Kerala.

Earlier, State President of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Praveen Kumar Shetty addressing the activists and said that Kerala Government’s decision to impose Malayalam language compulsory on Kanndiga ruling Schools will be disaster who living Kannada speaking people in Kasargod. The lacs of Malayalam speaking people living in Karnataka and we have given them freedom to choose the language whichever they likes to. We do not against Malayalam speaking people, but we are against to impose Malayalam language in the schools.

He said both central government and the state government should take into the matter and take serious solution to wipe off the move of the Kerala government. We demand to implement Mahajan Commission report and we demand to take back Kasargod district into Karnataka. The ruling governments should take interest to protect Kannada speeking people in Kasargod District.

Praveen Kumar Shetty said that about ten activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike from Hassan had arrived in vehicles at Hebri around 5.30 and were seeking to book the rooms when about 15 police officials from Mandya arrived in vehicles and taken away their leader Satish Patil, President of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike of Hassan district unit and assaulted Satish Patil. The police officials not wearing uniforms and pointed gun at the forehead of Satish Patil and askied him to identify the people in the photographs held by them. When Patil denied the identification of the people, these police officials kicked Patil. Karnataka Rakshana Vedike local leaders called and after their intervention, the police told that there was some misunderstanding and let off the KRV activists. He said that his activists have faced injustice and sought suspension of police officers who assaulted their leader and other members.

Praveen Kumar Shetty said that the situation of Kannada speaking people in Kasargod very serious. The chief minister of Karnataka should aware of the situation there. KRV called Karnataka Bandh on 12^th June, 2017 against the move by Kerala government’s imposing Malayalam language compulsory in Kannada speaking schools.

Raviraj Gatty, State Secretary of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike said that in 1969, both the language should be allowed under bilingual policy adopted for border areas. We are strongly opposing the imposing Malayalam language in Kasargod district. In Kasargod district out of 184 schools, about 40,000 Kannada speaking students study. Moreover, the Kerala Government is being forcibly imposing Malayalam language on Kannada speaking students We are opposing such move and we are ready to fight for the Kannada speaking students in any way for their cause. The chief minister of Karnataka should take interest to protect the Kannanda speaking people in Kasargod district.
