Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo warmly welcomed on his official Pastoral visit to Milagres Cathedral

Udupi : Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo was accorded a warm second official four days long Pastoral visit to Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur on Friday, 9th June, 2017.
On his arrival at the main gate of the Cathedral near Milagres Kannada Medium High School at 4.30 pm, the Bishop was greeted and given warm welcome by Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo Rector of the Cathedral along with Rev Fr. Rolwin Aranha and Rev Dr. Prakash Anil Castelino Asst. parish priests, Rev Fr. Henry Mascarenhas Chaplain of Ozanum Home for the aged, Rev Fr. Herald Mathias and Rev Fr. Nelson Furtado, Pilar Fathers, Dr. Nery Cornelio Vice President of Parish pastoral council and Secretary Felciana Lewis Secretary of parish pastoral council, members of parish pastoral council, nuns and large number of parishioners by offering a garland. After the warm welcome, the parishioners and devotees proceeded towards the Cathedral accompanied by peeling of the church bells.
On entering the Cathedral, the Bishop knelt in front of the main alter as the choir rendered the hymn in honour of Bishop. The parish priest Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo offered for Bishop incensed him.
The Bishop blessed the congregation by sprinkling Holy water and conferred general blessing on all congregation present in the Cathedral.
Thereafter, the Rector of the Cathedral brought huge Crucifix to the Bishop which he reverently kissed and followed by the Bishop received the candle of honour lighted from the decorated Pascal Candle from the Rector of the Cathedral and other priests and members of parish pastoral council lighted their candles and stood in line around the main alter. The hymn in honour of the Pope was sung next. After the brief prayer service, the Bishop conferred the Indulgence Blessing on the congregation.
Followed by, there were prayers held for departed souls of the parishioners and followed the readings from the Holy Gospel. Bishop in his homily on death said that death compared the life of human beings on this earth to flowers in the field and water bubbles. Quoting St Paul, the Bishop said that life does not end with death, but gets itself transformed. The living of human ends with death, the souls remains in the heaven. Bishop pointed out the some of the episodes from the Gospels in which Jesus raised the dead to life.
Thereafter, the liturgical service in the Cathedral, the congregation along with priests and the Bishop proceeded towards the church cemetery where the Bishop conducted the prayer service for the departed souls of the parishioners and bless the graves by sprinkling Holy water all around.
After the prayer service on his first day of the visit, Bishop had a meeting with Parish Finance Committee, followed by another meeting with the parish pastoral council. Bishop stressed on the need to plan year long programmes involving the eighteen commissions in the Diocesan Pastoral Plan. He said parish pastoral council members should do the work of Jesus through diocesan pastoral plan. Parish Finance committee will take the responsibility of administrative work of the job, but parish pastoral council members should actively participate in various 18 commissions for the betterment of the community at large.
