Kallianpura/Santhekatte, June 14, 2017: In an accident reported a couple of hours earlier, two young men who were travelling in their Swift from Bangalore hit the traffic pole at Santhekatte junction and miraculously escaped with injuries. The injured were rushed to the hospital by the locals who came into their rescue.
Santhekatte is a place of prominence in-between the city of Brahmavar and Udupi on national highway 66. Over a period, this place has developed a lot with high rise buildings, centre of trade, education, and other activities. This junction also connects kemmannu - Hoode- Bengre, Kallianpur and even Thottam, Malpe.
Santhekatte is known for traffic snarls and increasing traffic and congestion is posing threat of the area turning into accident prone zone.
The highway authorities too have exhibited their recklessness by not constructing a proper bus stand, proper crossings and signals here. Pedestrians and people crossing the road face grave danger on account of increased speed of buses, trucks, and other vehicles.
People expect the highway authohorities, local administration, MLA, MP and other concerned to sink their differences for the general good of the people and take steps in the larger interests of the people like by construction of under pass and over bridge and a proper bus stand.
