Udupi : Shilpa Nag, Assistant Commissioner directed the contractors widening National Highway 66 to repair all the damaged parts in Udupi district here on Rajathadri, DC office, Manipal.

She was chairing a meeting on dealing with the damaged stretches on NH 66 in Udupi district, she said the Othinane stretch that was recently affected by heavy rainfall also should repair within proper time frame and directed the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and contractors Navyuga, IRB, RV Construction companies to prepare for the monsoon.

She showed photographs and video clipping of landslips near Adiudupi. She also said that the people in Kundapur and Byndoor region were facing a lot of hardship owning to the haphazard nature of the road widening works. Owing to a landslip on 7^th June, the traffic was held up for nearly five hours at Othinane and large number of people troubles because of the lack of alternative roads.

Then the NHAI officer said that the land around the hillock, where the landslip occurred, belonged to the Forest Department which could not construct a drain by the side of NH 66 to allow the flow of the water and soil from the hillock. The design of the road on the Othinane stretch was drawn up in 2012 and the road widening work was started in 2016. There was constant flow of water and the soil had become loose.

AC Shilpa Nag told to officials to take steps to prevent landslips along the Othinane stretch in the future. If there is any landslip in future, the local officials should immediately inform the police, the tahsildar and to me also. She directed the officials concerned to fill the potholes on Jogur, Hdnberu and Muddodi roads which were being used as alternative roads to Othinane.

In regard to the compensation for land acquisition in Padubidri, she said there have been lot of complaints of discrimination in provision of compensation. The Department of Public Works should do land valuation once again and comopensation to be paid on the based on this valuation, she said.

She also directed the officials to undertake quick repairs on the road from Adiudupi to Kollur in light of President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to the district.
