Udupi : The cow is worshiped as God by Hindus. Muslims in Udupi should take a decision to quit eating beef which could be role model in the country, said Sri Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math.

He was speaking on Sarva Dharma Eid celebrations held at Mother of Sorrows Church Hall here on Tuesday, 27^th June, 2017 which was organized jointly by Sauhardha Committee, Catholic Sabha Udupi unit, Mother of Sorrows Church and Lions Club Udupi Sangama, Shiroor Math Swamiji said that since several decades, Udupi have relation with Muslims, Haji Abdulla had donated essential commodities like rice and oil for lighting lamps in Krishna Math. Now because of political interference, the relation between two communities has disrupting harmony. If we see present situation in the society, Hindus look at Muslims as enemies. Every human being should take responsibility to promote communal harmony in the society.

Bishop of Udupi diocese, Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo presided over the programme. Moulana Abdul Rahiman Razwi Kal Kata Vice President of district Wakf Board and priest said that Barkur in Udupi district, the Hindus offered to established first Mosque at Barker and there was history that Hindus treated Muslims as their guests and developed good relation with one another. Due to celebration of Eid, Muslims believe that salvation of sins. Eid means festival celebrations, During  Eid festival celebrations one can keep aside the troubles and sorrows far away and opportunity to move towards the God. During Eid celebration, Muslims searching for the poor and donate food, clothing, groceries and other necessary food items.

In his address Rev Noel Prashant Karkada, Pastor of CSI Church, Mangaluru said that the religion means the way of life. Those who trying are to protect religion, then religion will protect them. Some people treating their own religion is superior than other religion. It is due to their lack of knowledge about the religion. It is need to see all religious people in equal. All religions objectives is similar. Compassion, peace, harmony and loving are the main principals of every religion. Indeed Religion needed for the betterment of the person and not for their destruction.

In his presiding address, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo said that one can see God in each and every person by following the principles of mutual cooperation, harmony, goodwill. India is multi cultural country. During the month of Ramadan, Muslim communities can reach God by offering prayer, abstinence and charity. The community has been helping the poor through charitable work. By controlling anger, one can live in the society with peace, unity, harmony, respect, love and cooperate with each other without any discrimination of religion. Eid festival is the festival of peace and love.

Earlier welcome dance was performed by St Mary’s Higher Primary School students. Rev Fr, Valerian Mendonca Parish Priest of Mother of Sorrows Church welcomed the gathering. Leslie Cornelio of Catholic Sabha proposed vote of thanks. Michael D’Souza was compered the programme.
