Great concern on girl children subjected to multiple oppression - Dr Nagarathna Shastri

Print Udupi : Girl children in particular are subjected to multiple forms of oppression, exploitation and discrimination due to their gender would great concern even in developed district like Udupi, said Dr. Nagarathna Shastri, Udupi Taluk Health Officer.
She was speaking in her inaugural address during the celebration of Oral Hygiene Day, organized by Platform of Women Entrepreneurs’ (POWER) along with Mahila Grahakara Vividdhodesha Sahakari Sangha, Udupi held at Mahila Grahakara Vividdhodesha Sahakari Sangha Hal here on Tuesday, 1st August, 2017.
She said that forms of discrimination against girl children are numerous and vary depending on the traditions. So many women from communities with a preference for boys practice selective abortion and hence the proportionate ratio of women decreased. We can find that between 0 to 6 years of female children drastically decreased. Even now also the tradition of child marriage existed especially at some part of North Karnataka.
She said that hands should be clean during the intake of food and also need to clean the mouth also. During our daily life oral hygiene is most important to us. The program organized by the women forum is much appreciated, she said.
Dr. Vijeyendra Vasanth Rao President of Indian Dental Association, Udupi districr was presided over the programme and gave his talk on oral dental hygiene.
Dr. Gayathri President of POWER, Dr. Smitha Rajanish Secretary, Smt Tara Thimmayya Vice President and others were present.
Earlier after the invocation, Smt Tara Thimmayya gave keynote address. Jayalakshmi Bhandary President of MGVSS welcomed the gatherings. Rajalaxmi Shetty proposed vote of thanks. Yashoda Keshav proposed vote of thanks.
