Udupi : Tourism should be promoted in the district to tap its full tourism potential. Udupi district has ample tourism opportunities when utilized in proper manner, said Vinay Kumar Sorake, Kaup MLA and former district in charge Minister.

He was speaking after launching the refurbished website, an app on tourism in Udupi and releasing radio jingles on tourism in the district for FM radio on the occasion of observing World Tourism Day celebration which was organized by District Administration, Tourism Department, Nirmithi Kendra and Malpe Beach Development committee at Rajathadri, Manipal here on Wednesday, 27^th September, 2017, said that earlier Goa state and now the Kerala government had made developed in tourism and promoted tourism. Udupi district also can make available to tourism sector like Goa and Kerala. Presently Kerala has recorded massive progress in tourism. We have also there are ample scope on tourism and should be effectively utilized. So that it is possible to create more jobs and effective economy as well.

He said that it is necessary to get an airport sanctioned for Udupi district to develop tourism in larger scale like in Kerala. Meanwhile tourism should be introduced as one of the subjects in colleges.

He also said that it was necessary to stop the pollution in rivers. Some of the rivers in the district are getting polluted prior to joining the sea which great concern to us.

There has been massive scope for the tourism development in coastal district of Karnataka. Earlier during S.M. Krishna was the chief minister proposed the tourism corridor at coastal Karnataka beaches and gave responsibility to then deputy commissioner of Udupi district Gaurav Gupta. Now he is the chief secretary of tourism department. There will be vast opportunities to develop tourism sector in Udupi district.

Presently Madikeri is developed in Tourism and more than 2000 homestays are available there and having good advantage from home stay business. We should provide proper infrastructures to the tourists and it is necessary to join hands with private entrepreneurs in order to develop tourism in Udupi district. He appreciated the work done by Manohar Shetty for his initiatives to develop Udupi district beaches including Hejmady beach.

Earlier after the invocation, Anita B.R. Joint Director for Tourism Department welcomed the gathering. Dinakar Babu presided over the occasion and inaugurated the World Tourism Day by unfurling the Pingara traditionally.

Priyanka Mary Francis Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Sanjeev Patil Superintendent of Police spoke during the occasion. Dr. Vijendra gave key note address. Brochures on tourism also released during the occasion.

Manohar Shetty, Yathish Baikampady, Manipal College Principal Parvathavardhini, Jet Airways marketing official Gangadher Hegde was present on the dais.

Artist Ganesh Gangulli compered the programme. Prizes were distributed to various competitions during the occasion.
