Udupi : The state government should drop celebrating the Tippu Sultan Jayanthi which is nothing but to gain votes from Muslim community, said Sumith Shetty, Bailoor ZP member during the general meeting of Zilla Panchayat on Tuesday, 24^th October, 2017.

When Sumith Shetty raised the issue, Janardhan Thonse, Opposition leader objected the issue and said that it is the issue of State Government and not the Udupi district Zilla Panchayat. There was uproar during the meeting between the Janardhan Thonse and ruling ZP members.

Sumith Shetty wanted to pass the resolution on the issue and should send to the state government. He argued that there were three deaths during the Tippu Jayanthi celebrations last year. He demanded to celebrate the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and other Muslim leaders for their contribution to the country. But Tippu Sultan was intolerant and not a freedom fighter.

Janardhan Thonse said that it is the programme of state government and since two years the state government is celebrating the Tippu Sultan Jayanti. Zilla Panchayat has nothing to do with the said celebration. The Kannada and Culture department of the state has been celebrating the Tippu Sultan for his contribution to the state.

In reply to the issue, Shivananda Kapasi, ZP CEO said that Zilla Panchayat cannot stop the celebrations. It is the programme of state government. Kota Srinivas Poojary MLC was clarified the issue and said that as per the ZP rule, it is not able to pass the resolution, but ZP can record the points during the meeting on the complicated issue of celebrating Tippu Jayanthi.

Janardhan Tonse said that there is need to increase the KSRTC buses in village areas like Nidamballi at Kallianpur and other places which lot of students and large number of public should take advantage. All members agreed on the issue and said that KSRTC buses should run at Kundarpur urban areas. Shilpa Suvarna, Laxmi Billava, Jayashree Mogaveera and other ruling members said that there has been the shortage of bus services in the route of Yellur, Kaup and other places.

Replying to, KSRTC officials said that as per the High Court order 11 KSRTC buses permit cancelled and so the routes of Shirva Manchakal, Kokkarne, Amavasebail, Agumbe cancelled and he regretted that due to the cancellation the students who hold the pass effected large. Meanwhile, 63 applications for the bus routes submitted to regional road transport authority on 30^th August, 2017.

There were other issues like Water spoilage at the areas of Varahi Water projects, unavailability of text books for the school students, Aadhar centers problems.
