Severe dengue patient spends 4 hours inside 108 Ambulance.

Udupi, November 2, 2017 : A ten year old girl who was suffering from severe dengue fever had to spend four hours  inside an 108 ambulance when she failed to get admitted in Udupi Government Hospital as well as  Wenlock Hospital at Mangaluru. At last the social worker from Udupi got her admitted in a private hospital.

The incident was reported on 30th October. The 10 year old girl called Badamma daughter of daily wage workers Parasu and Neelamma. The couple admitted the girl first at District Women and Children Hospital at Udupi. The doctors after medical investigation found that the girl was suffering from acute Dengue fever and the chances of her survival was very remote. They advised the parents of the girl to take her to Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru and the doctor told them that he will call the Wenlock Hospital. The parents took the patient to Mangaluru in 108 ambulance immediately.

But on arrival at Wenlock Hospital the doctors rejected the case and told that there is no infrastructure available to treat dengue in that condition at the hospital. Then the parents tried to contact the government hospital in Udupi, but failed to get connected. In spite of parents repeated request, the girl remained inside the ambulance in Mangalore.

The frustrated parents then contacted the social worker of Udupi, Vishu Shetty Ambalpady over the phone and requested help. Immediately Vishu Shetty gathered the information from the doctors in Udupi Hospital and came to know the circumstances which demanded the doctors in Udupi to refer the case to Wenlock, Mangalore. Evan the chances of survival was very remote, Vishu Shetty arranged the patient back to Adarsh Hospital in Udupi by the same 108 ambulance and promised the private hospital that he will bear the cost either by collecting donations or by begging on the road. Now the treatment at Adarsh has began with a hope for the recovery.
