Abudhabi: UAE’s leading Kannada association, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha celebrated Karnataka Rajyotsava in grandeur with present of many dignitaries and hundreds of kannadigas.

The most prestigious award which is given yearly to the dignitaries who done exceptional service to language and culture, is conferred to famous Yakshagana artist and teacher Shekhar Shettigar by dignitaries present at celebration of Kannada Rajyotsava.

The celebration was presided by patron of Abu Dhabi Karnataka sangha and chairman of BRS ventures Dr B R Shetty. Along with him Dr. Chandrakumari BR Shetty, Ronald Pinto - Managing director of Hyssna International LLC, chairman of Arab Udupi hotels Shekhar  Shetty, poet and guest Asadulla Beig, president of Abu Dhabi Karnataka sangha Sarvottam Shetty and members lightened traditional lamp and initiated the celebration.

Dr BR Shetty honored Shekhar Shettigar with shawl, flowers, memento and appreciation letter. Wife of Shekhar Shettigar was present during honor. After receiving the honor Shekhar Shettigar expressed his happiness for choosing him for prestigious Da Ra Bendre award. He said, this honor is not to one person but a respect of Yakshagana lovers to all artists and people who selflessly dedicate their service to field of Yakshagana. He thanked ADK president Sarvottam Shetty and members for recognizing his contribution to Yakshagana.

As a part of celebration, Adarsha Dampathigalu contest was main attraction of the event. Also many cultural, classical music presentations elaborating the tradition and richness of Kannada.

Famous poet and shayari performer Asadulla Beig presented his humorous rib tickling shayari and comedy punch which created laughter riot at auditorium.

Guest artist Sahil Shetty compered the program. Sarvottam Shetty, Manohar Tonse compered the formal proceedings of stage function. Behalf of Abudhabi Karnataka sangha sponsors and supporters are honored with memento as token of gratitude.

Chairman of Fortune group of hotels Praveen Shetty, managing director of ACME building materials LLC Harish Sherigar, many Kannada related association leaders were present at celebration.
