India’s Manushi Chhillar crowned Miss World 2017
Manushi Chhillar from India was crowned Miss World 2017 at the 67th edition of Miss World 2017 pageant held on 18 November 2017 in Sanya City Arenam, China. She is the 6th Indian to win the coveted crown. India last won the crown in 2000 when Priyanka Chopra was crowned by Miss World 1999 Yukta Mookhey.
Manushi is a complete package of beauty with brains. After bagging the Miss India World 2017 title earlier this year, she utilized her fame for a noble cause, and started an initiative to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene. The gorgeous 20-year old has also won the Head to Head Challenge and the Beauty with a Purpose titles, earlier this evening.
Post her magnificent win, Manushi said, The feeling is still sinking in but I’m very excited to make India proud too. I’m also looking forward to the year ahead. My parents have always been my pillar of support and having them here tonight by my side has only brought me more strength and joy. My final answer also came to me by having them here with me in front of me.
Manushi succeeds Miss World 2016 Stephanie Del Valle from Puerto Rico. At the same event, Stephanie Hill from England was adjudged first runner up and Andrea Meza from Mexico was adjudged second runner up. The grand finale of the most prestigious pageant was hosted by former Miss World 2013 Megan Young.
The show began with a grand opening number where the contestants vying for the Miss World crown entertained the audience with an enchanting dance number. Later, the finalists took the stage as confirmed quarter finalists of the evening. Thereafter, the quarter finalists were trimmed down to Top 10 semi-finalists which included Indonesia, Russia, England, Korea, Jamaica, Mexico, South Africa, India, Kenya and France. The quarter finalists then gave a short interview to the host of the evening, Megan Young. Subsequently, the contestants were further narrowed down to Top 5 finalists wherein England, France, India, Kenya, and Mexico made the final cut.
