Udupi : Kalabhimani Sangha ®, Kaup along with Vidyaniketan Group of Institutions supported by the Udupi District Chess Association ®, Udupi to hold a national level Chess tournament from 9^th to 10^th December, 2017.

Addressing a press meet here at Vidyaniketan School premises in Kaup, Srinivas Poojary, President of Kalabhimani Sangha Kaup said that for the first time a national level Chess tournament called Srhi Narayana Guru Trophy National FIDE Rating Rapid Chess Tournament will be held on 9^th and 10^th December in rural place, There are a total of 175 prizes to be won, with a grand total of a whopping Rs 2 lakh. There is Open Category (Top 25), Age category under 7,9,11,13,15 Top 10 boys and girls separately and also participants will be competing for Udupi Best Player (Top), Kaup Best Player (Top 10), Rating Category and Best Youngest Player prize also.

The tournament will witness the plays of some of the greats like coastal Karnataka First International Master Viani D’Cunha from D.K., United Karnataka Chess Association Secretary Aranvind Shastry, and one of the top players in Karnataka Gahan M G, Sakshanth Kaup, Devdas Pai, Harish Kumar Brahmavara, Babu J Poojary Uppunda and Mahima Sherigar.

K P Acharya President of Vidyaniketan Group of Institutions will preside over inaugural and valedictory programmes. Minister for Sports  Pramod Madhwaraj and UPCL President Kishore Alva will inaugurate the tournament. Entrepreneur Suresh Shetty Gurme, Udaya Shetty Muniyalu, President of Muniyalu Udayakrishnaiah Shetty Charitable Trust, Dr. Rajagopal Shoney Associate Dean KMC Manipal, Srinivas Poojary Katapady, Dr Kailas Poojary, Muthu Kumar, Vincent Lobo Chikkamagaluru, G M Laxman Gowda and Harish Poojary Ammembala will be present on the occasion.

On Valedictory function will be held at 5.30 pm on 10^th December which Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLA, Lalaji Mendon former MLA and other will be present.
