Udupi : Kalabhimani Sangha (Reg) Udupi and Vidyaniketan Group of Educational Institutions along with the collaboration of Udupi district Chess Association ® for the first time in Udupi inaugurated “National Open FIDE Rapid Chess Tournament – 2017 “Shri Narayana Guru Trophy” at Vidyaniketan  Group Educational Institutions ground here on Saturdary, 9^th December, 2017.

Shri Kishore Alva Joint President of Adani Groups UPCL was inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp with other guests on the dais.

In his inaugural address Kishore Alva said that Chess is unique, amazing sport that offers the opportunity to realize the player’s potential to its maximum. Contemplating person perceives the surrounds deeper and brighter and this is the main reason that the chess player is always one step ahead of others.  This game has been one of the oldest game since 6^th century.

Today we can witness more chess masters in the country. It is world top 10^th ranking which is amazing. Chess should be made available compulsory in schools of the district. He wished the organizers for conducting chess tournament in urban place like Kaup.

In his keynote address V. K. Udyavara said that today in the century of information with the changes happening every day and even every minute in all fields of social life, chess provides the ability to evaluate a perspective correctly, to fix a goal and logically estimate ways of its achievement that becomes a formula for success. It is chess that teaches all that. It is indisputable one. A good player always has luck to win. Chess is a symbol of the world, because the key to the victory is in the power of mind and not in the physical force.

The chess tournament inaugurated with playing chess by Isha Sharma and guest of honor Suresh Shetty Gurme.

Earlier after the invocation prayer, K. Srinivas Poojary President of Kalabhimana Sangha welcomed the gatherings. K. P. Acharya Correspondent of Vidyaniketan Group of Educational Institutions presided over the programme.

On the dais Suresh Shetty Gurma Entrepreneur, Dr. Rajgopal Shenoy, Associate Dean, KMC Manipal and President of udupi district Chess Association, Udupi,  Dr. Kailash Poojary Professor ENT department K MC,Manipal,  Babu J Poojary, Secretary Secretary, Udupi district Chess Association,  Mutthu Kumar Owner Maruthi Bakers, Bengaluru, Aravind Shastri Secretary UKCA, H. B. Siddaraju, Ramanagar, Bengaluru, Umanath Kaup and other among were present on the dais.

Umanath Kaup proposed vote of thanks. Saundarya compered the programme. Vasanth B. H. Bengaluru, International and national level referee was felicitated during the occasion. About 384 chess players are registered in the competition. The valedictory and prize distributions to be held on Sunday, 10^th December, 2017.
