Udupi : Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur of Udupi diocese observed ‘Vespers Day’ with great devotion near here on Tuesday, 16^th January, 2018.

The evening liturgy started with Holy rosary prayers conducted by Bro. Fredrick Sequiera. The main celebrant of the Vespers liturgy Rev Fr. Joseph Machado, Parish Priest of St Peter’s Church, Pethri blessed the Cheryl of Our Lady of Milagres and taken Cheryl with procession from Cathedral via Milagres College Road, Kallianpur main road and back to the church. The devotees in large number participated with lighting the candles through the procession.

The Vespers prayers led by Rev Fr. Joseph Machado with Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo, Rector of the Cathedral, Very Rev Fr. Stany Tauro Dean of Shirva Deanery, Very Rev Fr. Xavier Pinto Rector of St Anthony’s Shrine, Kerekatte and former Vicar of the Milagres Church, Rev Fr. Rocky D’Souza, parish priest of Udyavar church, deanery priests, guest priests, parishioner priests and other priests from other diocese were present.

In his beautiful homily Fr Joseph Machado pointed out the impact of God on mankind. The Word of God is likened to a looking glass. We need a mirror to see whether our faces are dirty or clean and whether out hair is disorderly or combed. Without one, we cannot tell how we look. The Word of God does something similar in that shows me the condition of my heart before God. The Word of God is likned to a fire. The Word of God, has purifying effect upon our lives, eliminating from them what is un-Christ like. Our attitude towards God’s Word determines whether it will purify or destroy. If we submit to it, it will purify us. If we ignore or spurn it, then it will surely consume us.

At the end of Vespers liturgy, the parish priest Fr. Stany B. Lobo placed the brief announcements. Large number of people witnessed the devotion of the Vespers Evening as well as greeting one another. ICYM and YCS organized housie games, other kitty games.
