Udupi : The Federation of Wine Merchants Association, Karnataka demands to take strict action against corrupt Excise officers in the state that Excise department officials demanding bribe from the Wine Merchants as well as illegal dealing in the department.

Speaking to media persons during the press meet at Hotel Sharada International, here on Thursday, 22^nd February, Guruswamy Mysur, President of Federation of Wine Merchants’ Association, Karnataka said that in relate to wide corruption, bribery charges against the excise officials all over the state, the excise department are exploiting license holders and those who seeking new license for the new outlet. Hence, the Excise department union headed by deputy commissioner of Excise, Udupi Merunandan is going for fight against the license holders. The department has been indulging by taking signatures from district bearers.

He said that government has lost crores of profits due to illegal selling of liquor at dabas, small shops and other. Some illegal shops selling Goa liquor in their outlets.

The Wine Merchants Federation made three classes of corrupt officials of the excise department, top corrupted, corrupted and less corrupted. In Udupi district there are three corrupted officials making huge money due to bribery and other way. Deputy Commissioner tried to put case on General Secretary of the Federation on atrocities case. The department also tried to put case on Kundapur taluk president. Under C.L. D case, Udupi deputy excise official tried to put case under Dalit atrocities on Kundapur taluk president. But fortunately, the Federation won the case. So, when there is no bribery to excise officials, then these officials targeting and harassing the Federation members, said Govindraj Hegde.

Guruswamy said that we have also brought issue of bribery and corruption to the notice of Excise Minister R B Timmapur, but he done nothing for us. Even there are large numbers of bribery and other cases on Excise officials, the state government not done anything.

He said the Federation members’ demands to issue transfer order to the present deputy commissioner of Excise department of Udupi, Merunandan at the earliest possible.

As per the order from Supreme Court that not to sale liquor near to Highways, to shift the outlets, the Excise department asked us to give the bribery. The top excise officials indulged in top bribery and other illegal ways. The Federation will give the complaint to Governor of the state, chief minister and related officials regarding the massive corruption of the excise officials.

The state government should take action on the most corrupted excise officials at the earliest later than 10 days. Failed which we will register a writ petition on excise officials.
