Udupi : Laxman Nimbargi, Superintendent of Police of Udupi district said that he would write to the managements of schools and colleges and direct them to halt school buses 100 metres behind or ahead of the local bus stands.

SP Laxman Nibargi at the phone-in programme organized at the District Police Office here on Friday, 23^rd February, after a caller requesting the district police to take solution in regard to the school buses parking in and around local bus stands especially during the peak hours which disturb people in large extent.

A caller pointed out that heavy trucks were using Herady – Yadthady – Gavali Road to dodge the toll gate at Sasthan. Laxman Nimabargi said that the stern action would be taken against large trucks which were using alternative roads which the bridges on these roads were weakening. A caller also reminded the police that a bridge connecting Barkur and Brahmavar had collapsed due to movement of heavy trucks carrying ore 14 years ago. Since trucks over 20 tonnes were moving on the road, the collapse of many bridges could not be ruled out due to weak and narrow bridges.

A woman caller said that buses moved with speed on NH 66 at Trasi village and it was difficult for the people to cross the road especially during the peak hours of the day. Laxman Nimbargi said that the traffic police would be deployed on duty during the peak hours to regulate the traffic.

The SP said that he would direct the police to patrol these roads and start imposing heavy fines on such big trucks. The police personnel of Brahmavar and Kota police stations would also be pressed into duty for this purpose. We also would be taken confidence of the Regional Transport office in the matter.

A caller said that some of the autorickshaws in Udupi not using flag metres and operators asking more money from the people. SP said that a meeting of Revenue, Transport and Police department with the autorickshaw operators would be called to decide if prepaid and postpaid charges between various destinations could be agreed upon.

Another caller said that the reflectors stuck on the barricades on the NH66 had given away or had peeled off at Koteshwar, Saligrama and Brahmavar. SP said these reflectors were badly needed during night traffic. The police would put up new radium reflectors on these barricades at the earliest.

The members of the public called the SP that not visible of vehicles number plates, Heavy vehicles parking opposite of distribution company at Santhekatte-Melpe road, parking problems at Karkala, wrong side vehicles movement at NH66 Udyavara, Balaipede, Brahmavar, K G. Road, Heroor, Ambagilu and other places, drunken persons giving problems at Kolalgiri, traffic problems at Moodubelle main road, threat at Brahmavar on land dispute case, Matka and on other matters.

Meanwhile SP said that since two weeks 20 Matka cases were registered and 20 arrested, gambling 8 cases and 45 arrested, ganja cases 9, Copta 164, drunken vehicles driving cases 7, without helmet 1,014, harsh horn 110 and in relate to transport 1654 cases were reported.
