Print Udupi : Congress led state government has taken the decision not to introduce Project Tiger and recommendations of Kasturi Rangan Report to ensure people are out of fear of displacements and livihood, said Ramanath Rai, Forest Minister of State of Karnataka.
Speaking after inaugurating the ‘Saalumarada Thimmakka Vriksha Udyanavana’ here on Saturday, 24th February, Ramanath Rai said that the inhabitants of several villages around Kudremukh region people are living under fear over the project.
He said that the state government the martyrs in the forest department are recognized for their outstanding contributions to the conservation of wildlife. He also said that the government has decided to honour the martyrs in the forest department, who dedicated their lives to save wildlife and the forest with CM’s gold medal. The government also decided for special remuneration for the forest motivators who are offered Rs 9,000 as against the earlier Rs. 4,000/-
The forest department and revenue department in a joint survey has identified that 10 lakh hectares of land which would be brought out from the purview of deemed forest category, he said.
The state government has doubled the amount in the compensation packages, wherein the victim who loses life owing to the human and wild animal conflict would be compensated Rs. 5 lakh and partial disability would be compensated with Rs. 2 lakh. The compensation for the crop loss due to wild animals also doubled, he said.
Vinaykumar Sorake former minister and Kaup MLA also spoke during the occasion and said that the forest department is being converted into people-friendly department under the aegis of Ramanath Rai.
PCCF Brajesh Kumar, CCF Dr. Sanjay Bijur, DCFs Ganesh Bhat, Prabhakaran, Karikalan, ACF M M Acchhappa, RFO Clifford Lobo and others were present.
