Print Manipal : The two-day National Conference “Breastcon 2018” on breast cancer began here on Saturday at the Dr T M A Pai Halls -1 KMC Campus, Manipal with about 150 oncologists drawn from the areas of medical, surgical and radiotherapy and oncology from across the country participating in the deliberations. The Scientific sessions of experts from across India is the main attraction of Breastcon 2018.
While inaugurating the conference, Dr Poornima Baliga Pro Vice Chancellor, MAHE said,”The trend is to focus on organ based or disease based approach for the treatment of cancer. But the ideal way is to offer a holistic patient-based approach with Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Radiotherapy, palliative care and psychological counselling coming together. This would deliver superior curative care,” Dr Baliga added. Dr Poornima Baliga said that Kasturba Hospital Manipal would soon add homecare services for oncology patients and the details are being worked out”.
Dr Pragna Rao Dean-KMC Manipal said that more than the scientific advancements and technology, it is the compassionate approach of the oncologist which will really create an impact on the patient and thus would produce better results.”
Dr Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, Dr Prashanth Shetty Surgeon and Karnataka Medical Council Observer Udupi, the Breastcon 2018 Conference organising chairpersons Dr Krishna Sharan head of Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology and Dr Karthik Udupa head of Department of Medical Oncology and Dr Satadru Ray head of Department of Surgical Oncology – all from Shirdi Sai Cancer Hospital and Research Centre Kasturba Hospital, Manipal were present.
