Udupi : District Administration arranged demonstration of using Voter Verified Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines at the DC office here at Manipal on Saturday, 31^st March, 2018.

SVEEP Committee member O R Prakash demonstrated the machines and said that the machines will be attached to the ballot unit of the Electronic Voting Machines. When a voter presses the button in the ballet unit for the candidate which she or he wants to candidate, the serial number of the candidate in the ballot unit along with the candidate’s symbol will be printed on the paper roll kept inside the VVPAT machine.

In order to confirm exact person which voter pressed will be printed on the part of the paper and it will be visible to the voter just for seven seconds on a small display in the machine. Meanwhile both voter pressed on the candidate symbol and printed slip inside the sealed compartment in the bottom of the machine will be stores. Any conflict during the counting, then the paper slips will be used to cross check with votes recorded in the EVMs.

During the demonstration, EVMs, VVPAT and Control unit were used by the officials of the BEL, Bengaluru.

The VVPAT system has been introduced in order to clear doubts and rumours regarding tampering of EVMs and VVPATs.

Speaking to media persons during the demonstration of the machines, Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis said that the voter can identify the candidate after the pressing the button on the desired candidate within seven seconds through VVPAT machines. So, any doubt about the EVM machines can be easily recognized in the VVPAT machines when a demand comes.

Priyanka Mary Francis said that it is necessary to take permission from the election commission officials for any political and social programmes. For such programmes there is no authority to give the permission from the grama panchayats or municipal council officials.

She said that there is possibility of participate the political persons in programmes like wedding, housewarming, birthdays or any social programmes and there are possibilities of food and meal and political people can take advantage such events and hence the prior permission needed such programmes by the election officials.

Replying to media persons, DC said that there were 7 cases of violating election code of conduct in the district since elections of the state declared.

During the demonstration along with the election officials, Anuradha Additional Commissioner, Shivanand Kapasi CEO of ZP, O R. Prakash, Faraz Tasdeeq and Ashok Kumar, the technicians from BEL were present.
