Udupi : The Union government banned the lighting fishing for the Purse-Seine Boats which incurred heavy loss for the fishermen. If, the Union government not reconsiders the banning lighting fishing, Purse-Seine Vessel Fishermen will stage severe protest in coming season with blocking the National Highway, warned Yashodara Amin, President of Melpe Purse-Seine Fishermen Association.  

Speaking to media persons at Malpe Yeloor Mogaveera Bhavan on Sunday, 6^th May, 2018 after the annual general meeting of the association, said that Deep Sea Vessel Associations alleged on through light fishing the generation of fish will going to end. Due to their false allegation Union government banned the fishing of lighting fishing. More than 30,000 fishermen facing unemployment problem and these fishermen families are difficult to live in the society, he said.

Due to ban on lighting fishing, the Purse-Seine boat fishermen since February, there is no income. Hence it would be difficult to maintain their families. Meanwhile it would be difficult to repay the loan, children education and other problems. He said the fish generation going to end due to violation of deep sea fishing. It would be end of fish generation due to catch of small child fish with use of highly powered engines. We catching fish from December to March month only, he said.

He alleged that by use of lighting fishing ban only works in Karnataka from Karwar to Mangaluru coasts, but other states there would not ban works. Due to powerful politicians’ hand, lighting fishing banned in Karnataka. If the Union government not reconsidering the lift of ban, Purse-Seine Boat fishermen will stage severe protest in coming season, he said.
