Udupi : Udupi district is gearing up for the crucial assembly legislative election which is just two days away. There are 1103 polling stations in five assembly legislative constituencies. The district administration is all set to conduct the polls in peaceful and efficient manner.

Addressing to media persons at DC office, Deputy Commissioner of the district Priyanka Mary Francis said that assembly election will be held on May 12 from 7am to 6 pm all the polling stations in the district. Counting of votes will be held on May 15 at Dr. T.M.A. School premises at Udupi. She said that for the first time, 10 pink booths have been set up in the district to attract voters. In Pink booths, polling station will be manned by women dressed up in pink.

In relation to the election, Chunavana App will help users find their assembly constituencies and polling stations. This app was introduced on May 2 by the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer which is now available on Play Store. Through this App on the areas of Udupi, Kundapura and Karkala assembly constituencies, the information on polling booths at urban areas can get once in 10 minutes, she said.

The disabled physically challenged and other disabled voter’s, the district administration has made special arrangements to felicitate these voters and will also procure wheel chairs from the government hospitals and private hospitals. There are 555 polling stations these facilities will be provided. Moreover partial blind voters, magnifying glass will be provided at 328 polling stations, she said.

The election commission appointed 274 Micro Observers will give training on their responsibilities.

On duty election officials and security officials will b e provided meal, refreshments will be provided by the Aksara Dashova staff at polling booths. Drinking mineral water also to be supplied for the officials on election duty in all the polling booths, she said.

In relate to assembly election, there are critical and non-critical 132 polling stations, webcasting will be introduced. In these polling stations, there is scope to watch all activities to DC office, state and centre election offices. There are 149 critical polling booths in the district, she said.

Under the district administration guidelines, 144 IPC section will be imposed from 6 pm on 10^th May to 6 pm on 12^th May, which more than five persons not allowed to gather. The election campaigning will be ends at 6 pm on 10^th May. After the end of campaigning process of the election, those who brought political leaders, workers and campaigning leaders from outside the constituencies or outstations should leave from the particular constituencies. In case these persons stay in the lodges, hotels, Kalyan Matap’s or other lodging places, the said residing hotel management or other should tell them to leave the constituency.  From 10^th to 12^th May those who stay in their premises should give information on reason of the stay and other details completely and should get the copies of Aadhar card or identity cards to residing places, otherwise legal action will be taken against such premise owners, she said.

 This time bank employees also joined for the election duty at the booths in the district. In order to transport for the booths, KSRTC buses will be introduced to all the booths.
