Over 2,500 security personnel on duty to ensure fair and peaceful polling in district

Udupi : There are over 2,500 security personnel will keep a tight vigil to ensure fair polling in Udupi district, said Laxman B. Nimbargi, Superintendent of Udupi district.



Addressing media persons on Thursday, 10th May, at District Police Headquarters here said that there are 1,103 polling booths in the district. Out of that 226 have been categorized as sensitive booths. The detailed information to take adequate security measures in sensitive and other areas will be given to Field-level police personnel.

The security personnel included 16 companies of paramilitary forces including assisted by 3ASRD, 1SP, 1 Additional SP, 6DySP, 15SI, 35 PSI and 140 ASI, including Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Sashastra Seema Bal, three units of Karnataka Reserve Police Force, local police and Haryana Police and Home Guards.



There are 45 flying squads which will look after 24x7 hours and 3 flying squads at a time. There are 17 check posts been installed across the district which connected to district headquarters, DC office and election commission. There are 54 polling booths in naxalite affected areas and regular beats had been held in these Naxal affected areas.

He said that from January to May 2018, there are 2232 security related cases have been filed on rowdy, communal, gundas, repeated and habitual offenders. They have furnished security bonds to the police. Of the 3858 arms with license holdholders in the district, 3853 had been deposited with the police. The rest had been allowed to keep arms as they were guards at banks, gold shops and other places.


From February to May 2018, there are 4818 non-bailable warrants have been served out of which 4,300 cases have been executed and presented to the court.

As many as 40,06,800 cases in relate to motor vehicles have been filed against violation of Motor vehicles act.

There are 38 cases against violation of election mode of conduct with representation of people act, excise cases and IPC cases.

The total amount of cash Rs. 96,62,130 seized in check posts while Rs 20,65,160 cash amount returned after provided proper documents. Meanwhile a total of 13,531.36 litres of liquor have been seized by excise officials and police.

Three serious criminals have been shifted to Ballary, Gulburga and Mangaluru stations who are arrested under Gooda Act. Those who involved in Matka, gambling and assult on election commission officials, 17 criminals have been exiled in order to maintain law and order situation in the district.

SP said that on 12th May there will be assembly polling and in order to maintain strict law and order, district police all set to conduct peaceful and fearless polling.
