Five members of a family from Borivali reportedly drowned, while one was rescued at a beach in Ratnagiri district on Sunday evening after they ventured into the sea despite warnings by locals.

The incident took place around 5 pm at Are Ware beach.

According to Ratnagiri Police, the D’Souzas, residents of IC Colony in Borivali (West) were on their way to Ganpatipule, when they decided to take a break at Are Ware beach. As they prepared to jump into the water, the locals stopped them and informed them about the choppy sea and strong currents due to the confluence of local river and the sea nearby. The family, however, decided to go ahead anyway, said cops.

The victims have been identified as Kenneth Timothy Masters, 56, Monika Bento D’Souza, 44, Sanomi Bento D’Souza, 22, Rancher Bento D’Souza, 19, and Mathew Bento D’Souza, 18.

The locals managed to save Lina Kenneth Masters, 52.

The whole tragedy unfortunately unfolded in front of Rita D’Souza, 70, who was waiting for her family in the car.

ಮುಂಬಯಿ, ಜೂ.04: ಕಳೆದ ಶನಿವಾರ ಗೋವಾದಿಂದ ಕಾರು ಮೂಲಕ ಹಿಂತಿರುಗುವಾಗ ರತ್ನಗಿರಿ ದೇವ್‍ರುಕ್ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಆರೆವರೆ ಕಡಲ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಜೆ ವೇಳೆಗೆ ವಿಹಾರಕ್ಕೆಂದು ಇಳಿದ ಬೋರಿವಿಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಐವರು ನಿವಾಸಿಗಳು ಅಲೆಗಳ ಅಬ್ಬರಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿಲುಕಿ ದಾರುಣ ಸಾವನ್ನಪ್ಪಿದ್ದು, ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಐದು ಮೃತದೇಹಗಳನ್ನು ಪೆÇೀಲಿಸ್ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಎರಡು ಅಂಬ್ಯುಲೆನ್ಸ್‍ಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಇಂದಿಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಜೆ ಮುಂಬಯಿ ಉಪನಗರದ ಬೋರಿವಿಲಿಗೆ ತರಲಾಯಿತು.

ಮೃತರಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಲ್ವರು ಒಂದೇ ಕುಟುಂಬದವರಾಗಿದ್ದು ಬೋರಿವಿಲಿ ಐ.ಸಿ ಕಾಲೋನಿ ಕಿನ್ನೀಸ್ ಕಾರ್ನರ್ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಸಿಲ್ವರ್ ಸ್ಟೋನ್ ಬಿಲ್ಡಿಂಗ್‍ನ ನಿವಾಸಿಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ. ಮೋನಿಕಾ ಬೆನ್ಟೋ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ (44.), ಕು| ಸನೋಮಿ ಬೆನ್ಟೋ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ (22.), ಮಾ| ರಿಚಾರ್ಡ್ ಬೆನ್ಟೋ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ (19.), ಮಾ| ಮಾಥೇವ್ ಬೆನ್ಟೋ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ (18.) ಮತ್ತು ಕೆನ್ನೀತ್ ಮಾಸ್ಟೆರ್ಸ್ (56.) ಮೃತ ದುರ್ದೈವಿಗಳು. ಕೆನ್ನೀತ್ ಮಾಸ್ಟೆರ್ಸ್ ಕೊಚ್ಚಿಹೋದವರನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ಹೋಗಿ ತಾನೇ ಪ್ರಾಣಕಳೆದು ಕೊಳ್ಳುವಾಯಿತು. ಪ್ರಯಾಣದ ಜೊತೆಗಿದ್ದ ಪಯ್ಕಿ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾಸ್ಟೆರ್ಸ್ ಪರಿವಾರ ಮಿತ್ರರಾದ ಕೆನ್ನೀತ್ ಪತ್ನಿ ಲೀನಾ ಕೆ.ಮಾಸ್ಟೆರ್ಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ರೀಟಾ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಬದುಕಿ ಉಳಿದ ಅದೃಷ್ಟಶಾಲಿಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಎರಡು ದಿನಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆಯಷ್ಟೇ ರಜಾ ಕಾಲದ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿಗಾಗಿ ತೆರಳಿದ್ದರು ಎನ್ನಲಾಗಿದೆ. ರತ್ನಗಿರಿಯ ಸ್ಥಳಿಯ ಪೆÇೀಲಿಸರು ಕೇಸು ದಾಖಲಿಸಿ ಕೋಸ್ಟ್‍ಗಾರ್ಡ್‍ಗಳ ಸಹಾಯದಿಂದ ಮೃತದೇಹಗಳನ್ನು ಪತ್ತೆಹಚ್ಚಿ ಸಮುದ್ರ ತೀರಕ್ಕೆ ತಂದು ಪಂಚನಾಮ ನಡೆಸಿ ರತ್ನಗಿರಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಡಾ| ಪಿ.ದೇವ್ಕರ್ ಮೃತದೇಹಗಳ ಮರಣೋತ್ತರ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿ ತಮ್ಮ ವಾರಿಸುದಾರರಿಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದು ಇಂದಿಲ್ಲಿ ಬೋರಿವಿಲಿಗೆ ತರಲಾಯಿತು.

ಮೃತರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಮುಂಬಯಿವಾಸಿಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದು ನ್ಯೂಲೈಫ್ ಸಮುಹಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತರು ಎನ್ನಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಪಾರ್ಥೀವ ಶರೀರಗಳ ಅಂತ್ಯಕ್ರಿಯೆಯು ಬುಧವಾರ ನಡೆಸಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ಕುಟುಂಬ ಮೂಲಗಳು ತಿಳಿಸಿವೆ.
