Udupi : Laity organization like Catholic Sabha one of the powerful organization in the Catholic community in the diocese since five years, said Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi diocese.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh annual general body meeting and annual convention at the Milagres Tri-centenary Hall, Kallianpur near here on Sunday, 24^th June, Bishop said that Laity organization like Catholic Sabha would be the one of the face of church. The role of the Catholic Sabha activities not only inside the church compound but also should be carrying out outside the church compound.

There are out of 15673 catholic families, more than 13000 members across the diocese has a membership which would be great and most powerful than any organizations. The role of Catholic Sabha in the catholic community much appreciated, he said.

Bishop said that Catholic Community should engage in various fields like successful entrepreneurs, political leaders, educationalists and so on. There are hundreds of Church administrative educational institutions, but not able to take any influential measurers. We do not have more laity run educational institutions, only six laity run educational institutions. We have two or few who trainers in IAS and we need more than twenty trainers in highly government jobs seekers in ten years. We have more than 100 gram panchayats members, but we have only one ZP member and only two taluk panchayat members. We absolutely need good representation in entrepreneurs, political and government jobs, he stressed.

Elroy Kiran Crasto, former president and first president of Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh in his key note address placed various achievements of the Catholic Sabha for the community at large. He also focusing on promoting in various sectors for the community.

The programme began with invocation. The special achievers like Sr. Jicentha who received the honour of postal stamp by the Himachal Pradesh government, Merwyn Aranha who received the District Rajyotsava Award, Wilson Oliveira who received Sadesha Award and Delphine D’Souza who winner of National level Anganwadi Award were felicitated during the occasion.

Alphonsus D’Souza from Brahmavar conferred with Francis Danthi Memorial Literary Award during the occasion for his book “Melsuri Kavana Sanchalana”.

Wilfred D’Souza, Udupi district Nehru Yuvakendra District Co-ordinator, Lancy D’Cunha National President of AIUC and former President of Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh, Walter Cyril Pinto State President of AIUC and former President of Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh, Anil Lobo past president of Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh, Rev Fr. Ferdinand Fernandes Spiritual Director of Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh, Valerian Fernandes President of Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh 2016-18 were spoke during the occasion.

The new website of Catholic Sabha and telephone directory were unveiled on the occasion. Literate and writer Dr. Gerald Pinto’s (jerrynoddodi) book was released during the occasion.

The deanery, units and individual level for selling the maximum of donation coupons, best active deanery and the unit and special achievers for Amcho Sandesh, the monthly magazine of Catholic Sabha were honored on the occasion.

Various reports were placed by secretaries during the general body meeting and Treasurer placed the annual financial report. Alice Rodrigues placed the report on Sashakth Samuday Seva Trust and Henry Menezes placed the report on Manasa Pamboor.

Earlier Santhosh Cornelio President of Kallianpur Deanery Catholic Sabha welcomed the gatherings. Alwyn Quadros President of Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh 2018/19 presided and spoke on the occasion.

Jacintha Colaco General Secretary 2017-18, Maxim D’Souza General Secretary 2018-19, Solomon Alvaris Treasurer, Gerald Rodrigues Treasurer 2018-19, Very Rev Dr. Lawrence D’Souza Spiritual Director of Kallianpur Deanery Catholic Sabha, Stany Rodrigues of Catholic Sabha Milagres Cathedral unit were present on the dais.

Larsen D’Souza and Rosy Baretto were compered the entire programme. Lucky Person winner Crasta of Mount Rosary received the lucky person bumper prize. The famous Konkani comedian “Dolla” taken some of his specials.  Lunch meal was served to more than 550 participants.
