Udupi : Dr. A. V. Baliga Memorial Hospital, Doddanagudde here in association with Drug Control Department, Udupi District Chemists & Druggists Association Udupi observed International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Dr. A. V. Baliga Memorial Hospital premises on Tuesday, 26^th June, 2018.

The programme began with invocation by Pavana and Nagaraj. Mr. Nagesh Somyaji was welcomed the gatherings. Dr. Sameer Kumar Praharaj, Professor, De-addition Unit Head of Kasturba Hospital Manipal was inaugurated the programme.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Sameer Kumar Praharaj said that drug abuse is very serious problem in all over the world. Earlier years there were most of the elders used to consume the alcohol. But it would be sad to say that between 10 years to 35 years adolescents are consuming alcohol which would be great concern.

Dr. Sameer Kumar said that Drug trafficking is an international trade that involves the production, cultivation, dissemination and sale of substance which prohibited according to basic laws. When drug abuse wide spreads both among the richer and poorer strata of society, it is all the more imperative that there is need for community assistance to prevent drug abuse. Prevention is better than cure is substantially relevant.

Though the drug issue might seem to be almost impossible to eradicate, there exist many concrete actions which can be undertaken to reduce the impact of this menace over our society. The threat from drugs is too large to be ignored. We must take immediate actions to safeguard our society. Drug addiction is a draconian demon that can hold up on our society, he said.

The programmes by the government would be inadequate to give awareness on drug abuse. The role of pharmacists should be taken into account in regard to medication of drugs. Without prescription of the registered doctors, one should not use the drugs, he stressed.

Nagaraj K. V. Assistant Drug Controller of Udupi district placed some of the rules of the government who taken care by the licensed pharmacists.

Monohar Shetty President of Udupi district chemist and Druggist Association Udupi placed some of the important issues during the occasion.

V. G. Shetty, Secretary of Udupi district Chemist and Druggists also spoke during the occasion. In his presiding over address, Dr. P. V. Bhandary, Director of Dr. A. V. Baliga group of Institutions said that there was the time where elders are busy with their home work, but present situation, the elders as well as the youngsters are busy with operating the cell phones, mobiles which would be great concern in relate to various problems in our society in particular. We should listen the words of children. There is no time to listen anybody at present era. The parents should not neglect their children who build their career. He said that Drugs which should not sale over the counter and validation of prescription.

Lohith compared the programme. Mrs. Soujanya Shetty proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Veerupaksha Devaramane gave introduction of the programme. Dr. Deepak Malya, Nagarjmurthy were present.
