Udupi : “Kargil Vijay Diwas” was observed at DC offices campus, Manipal which was organized by Sanchalana, District Administration and Dr. G. Shankar First Grade Government College Udupi on Thursday, July 26, 2018. The Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year to mark the success of Indian Army in its war against Pakistan over intrusion in Kargil area in Kasmir.

Brigadier Gilbert Braganza, President of Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association was the chief guest. Addressing during the occasion, Brig Gilbert Braganza said that whichever winning aspects, there is sacrifices. All over the country tributes to the heroes of Kargil victory, Kargil Vijay Diwas has celebrated on 26^th July every year. But especially students never knew about the importance of winning of Kargil War with Pakistan. Importance of Kargil victory will go unjustified if heroic deeds and sacrifices of thousands of Indian soldiers are not recounted. 527 soldiers were martyred and laid down their lives. 1,363 were disabled or wounded. Grateful nation acknowledges their sacrifices.

He further appreciated the coastal district people that coastal districts people are giving respect to the ex-soldiers and soldiers. In northern part of India, every house one or two is serving for the army or other defense dominations. But, especially in southern part of the country, very few are joining the army. There are several vacancies in the army. But, our youths not ready to serve the country. He called the students and youths to join the army and make the life difference, he said.

Priyanka Mary Franics, Deputy Commissioner was presided over the programme and gave her brief address. Shivanand Kapasi CEO Zilla Panchayat, Dr. Roshan Kumar Shetty of Sports and Youth Empowerment Department, Prem Prasad Shetty of Sanchalana, Prof Bhaskar Shetty Principal of G. Shankar First Grade College, Ajjarkad, Udupi and Sathish of Malabar Gold and Diamonds were present on the dais.

On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, in front of the DC office, Rajathadri, Manipal 527 plants saplings held to remember tribute to 527 martyred soldiers during the Kargil war with Pakistan.
