Youths’ harasements in public places dominates SP’s weekly phone-in programme

Udupi : The majority of complaints during the district police Superintendent Laxman Nimbargi held weekly phone-in programme on Friday, 3rd August, that inconvenience to the people in public places in Udupi district.

 

 

The calls received from Udupi, Brahmavar, Kokkarne, Kota, Ambagilu were about the nuisance and bad behavior by the youth in public places and one woman complained about youths gather on the side of the road and smoke creating a problem for pedestrians in Ambagilu. One caller from Kota police station limits said that some youth tease girls in the evening near Halukote Ground in Saligrama every day. A caller from Kokkarne said that some youth gather near the wine shop and harassing girls and women. Reply to these callers, SP said that police department will take the issue of harassments’ in public places very seriously and police will take every step to punish such harassments’ in public places.

A caller said that many vehicles were being parked on the Padukere Bridge near Malpe and he also said that only one bus was plying in the area even though three bus permits were issued. In reply  to SP Laxman Nimbarge said that parking of vehicles would not be allowed on the bridge. He would take up the matter of bus permits with the concerned authorities.

 

 

A woman caller from Manipal said people were being harassed in the Regional Transport office. There was no response to any complaints in RTO. Laxman Nimbargi said that he will bring this matter to the notice of DC, Priyanka Mary Francis.

Another caller said a lot of heavy vehicles were being parked from Karavali Junction to Ambalpady Junction here this was obstructing traffic. Nimbargi said traffic police would be directed to take stern action against erring vehicles owners while parking in service road of NH66.

 

 

A caller from Kundapur complained that many migrant workers and their children were moving around unsafely on the road near Nehru Maidan and there had been damaged the NH66. Nimbargi said that action will be taken immediately and instructed the Kundapur traffic police to look into the matter.

A caller complained that illegal liquor selling in Mandarthi, illegal cattle trafficking in Padubidri, Vehicles using high beam lights during the night time, very early in the morning at 6 am one wine shop in Melpe selling the liquor. SP instructed the police office officials to respond such complaints immediately.

 

SP Laxman Nimbargi said that the police conducted a special drive against vehicles with tint glass, using of illegal name boards on private vehicles and those not wearing the seat belt and other issue. A fine of Rs. 3 lakhs was collected during the last two weeks special drive against the vehicles.

SP said that since last phone-in programme, 28 Matka cases were registered and 30 persons arrested, 3 gambling cases registered and 21 arrested, one arrested in illegal liquor sale, 6 persons arrested in an NDPT case, 169 cases registered under COTPA, cases registered against 47 drunken driving, 295 for shrill horns, 107 cases for using mobiles while driving, 2862 cases for riding without helmets, 6872 cases for over speed of vehicles and 4056 cases for other crimes under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Laxman Nimbargi said in relate to the murder of Guruprasad Bhat in Manipal that due to the financial and personal insult leads to the murder as per the investigations. Guruprasad had abused the accused and their mother which would be cause for the murder. Before the murder, we planned to file Goonda Act against the one accused in the case. We succeeded to arrest the culprits within 6 hours of the murder due to help from CCTV footages. One of the main accused Sujith Pinto just one month before came out from the jail in bail. In case if he would have in the jail, there could be murder of Guruprasad taken place, Nimbargi opined.

Laxman Nimbargi said that once again the police will proceed to bring Goonda Act on both brothers Sujith Pinto and Ranjit Pinto.

SP in reply to media persons that about the Shiroor Swamiji’s death case, all the necessary investigations under progress. The final outcome of the case will be come only after the full FSL report and other, he said.
