Udupi : A scheme meant the nutritional needs of pregnant and lactating women in rural areas called “Mathru Poorna scheme” which started by the previous Siddaramaih government has no such move to the stop of the scheme in front of present government, said Dr. Jayamala, Minister of State for Women & Child Empowerment, Minister for Kannada and Culture Department.

Speaking to media persons at Udupi on Sunday, 5^th August, at IB office here, said during her first visit to Udupi after appointing Udupi district in-charge minister that the Mathru Poorna Scheme introduced to help poor women of the state. The scheme may not so effective in D.K., Udupi, Kodagu and Ramnagar district, but other 26 districts in has been very much succeeded and most helpful for the rural areas of the state.

She said the scheme will be implemented through anganwadis in the state. The food will be provided for 15 months from the start of pregnancy up to six months after the delivery. This good scheme needed very badly for pregnant women. Instead of food giving money for pregnant women may take by the house people for their use, she said.

In D.K. and Udupi districts, the anganwadi’s situated more than one kilometer distance. Hence, this scheme may not so succeed. Instead of food, money may take from the other house people which would be reason why the food will be given in anganwadis of the state. Pregnant and after the delivery, the women needs has sufficient nutritional, iron contained food and proteins. Anyhow, the Mathru Poorna Scheme is one of the successful schemes available in the state, she said.

Dr. Jayamala said that she is very happy that she appointed as district in-charge minister of Udupi. She belongs from one of the district of Karavali region. I didn’t expected the post of district in-charge minister, hence, indeed I will do my best and my ambition to reach the all projects and schemes to the people, she said.

Query by media persons that all five legislative assembly members are from BJP which may the question of equality while serving as district in-charge,  she said that we should work together. The BJP MLAs also has the responsibilities. We should work together in order to work for the people. So, I don’t think it may not be question, she said.

To a query, Udupi district one of the top district in maintaining law and order situation. But recently there were murders taken place. In reply, she said maintaining law and order in the district would be the responsibilities of the Police and they will investigate such crimes. Due to election model code of conduct, I can’t speak more, she said.

Former district in-charge ministers Pramod Madhwaraj and Vinay Kumar Sorake, Congress District President Janardhan Thonse, Congress leaders M A Gafoor, Deviprasad Shetty and other were present.
