Udupi : District BJP leaders condoled the death of former Prime Minister and founder National President of BJP, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and paid their tributes to the veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader here on Friday, August 17 at Town Hall, Ajjarkad here.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the non-Congress leader to serve a full term in power, died on Thursday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi where he had been undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment since June. He was 93.

Top district leaders of BJP mourned his passing and spoke on Atal Bihari Vajpayee who was a true India statesman. His leadership, foresight, maturity and eloquence put him in a league of his own. Atalji, the Gentle Giant, will be missed by one and all.

Mattar Rathnakar Hegde President of District BJP said it was Atalji’s exemplary leadership that set the foundations for a strong, prosperous and inclusive India. Atalji had cherished the idea of a developed and powerful India in which all persons lived together in unity, peace and harmony. He was a true Ajatashatru who had many friends across the political spectrum, He believed in political consensus and his beliefs had consequential effect on Indian politics.

He further said that Atalji as someone who anchored the BJP close to the middle and did not allow the party to swing to the extreme right of the political spectrum. In fact, Vajpayee had no enemies and it was his distinguishing hallmark. BJP patriarch would be remembered for many things but above all for his genuine efforts to resolve the decade’s long hostility between Pakistan and India. Vajpayee emerged as a popular national leader who believed that power is a means of service and led a spotless political and social boundary showered him with love and respect. He dedicated his life to serve the nation and nation has lost an important political figure who was also an orator, poet, writer and intellectual, he said.

Other leaders like Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC and Opposition leader of Vidhan Parishat, Somashekar Bhat Senior BJP leader, D. Ravindra of RSS were paid tributes on the occasion.

Raghupathy Bhat Udupi MLA, Haladi Srinivas Shetty Kundapur MLA, Sukumar Shetty Byndoor MLA, Lalaji Mendon Kaup MLA and other leaders were present.
