Udupi : The district in-charge Minister DR. Jayamala was gheraoed by her own Party Workers in front of Congress Bhavan at Udupi here after the programme on the celebration of Mahatma Gandhiji Jayanthi programme on October 2.

The Congress Party workers led by Ramesh Kanchan and others questions the minister for not responding to the grievances of the party workers and failing to give protection to them during the Bharath Bandh.

The Congress workers said that during the Bharat Bandh in Udupi, the party workers had protested peacefully. Unless, Udupi police not able to give protection for them, Udupi SP unnecessarily resorted to lathi charge on the Congress workers and hence many congress workers got injured and admitted to the hospital.

Congress workers alleged that being a district in charge minister, Dr Jayamala either not visited to injured party workers nor she has no interest in said incident and totally neglected the Congress workers in the case. But she visited the SP’s house for Ganesh Chathurti.

Ramesh Kanchan told Jaymala that lathi charge against the Congress workers and municipal councilors during Bharath Bandh was a heavy handed measure. This showed that there was hardly any respect for elected representatives.

After allegations by the Congress workers, Dr Jayamala said that she spoke to the SP and carried that he had to resort to lathi charge to bring the situation under control. She also collected all information from the party leaders. She did not have any information in relate to Bharat Bandh nor received any invite. She instructed the SP to take action against those who had indulged in the forcible bandh.

She said, it is my duty to keep the district peaceful always. Later the party workers continuously demanded the transfer the SP Laxman Nimbargi, the minister lost her cool and strictly warned the workers that she would not tolerate their immature behavior in front of the media and left the venue.
