Udupi : The Zonal Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station, Brahmavar under the jurisdiction of University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga is organizing two days “Krishimela” on 27^th and 28^th October, 2018 in collaboration with Agricultural  Diploma College, Brahmavar,  ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Brahmavar, Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station, Ullal, Directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development, Cochin, Department of Agriculture, Horticulture, Watershed Department, Animal Husbandry, Sericulture, Fisheries and Forestry Udupi; SKDRDP, Udupi, Canara Bank, Brahmavar and Vijaya Rural Development Foundation, Mangalore.

Addressing a press meet at Udupi Press Club, S. U. Patil, Associate Director of Research/Extension, ZAHRS, Brahmavar said that the main objective of this Mela is to transfer the latest agricultural technologies through demonstrations, Seminars cum interactions, discussions, field visits and exhibition of various entrepreneurs. In general this is the festival of farmers and this Mela will provide platform to the farmers to solve their field problems.

            The Mela will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Deputy Commissioner Smt. Priyanka Mary Francis and the Agricultural exhibition  by  the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, UAHS, Shivamogga, Dr. M.K. Naik.  The Yantra Mela  will be  inaugurated by  the  Chief Executive  Officer  Zilla Panchayath, Sri Shivananda Kapashi.  The programme will be witnessed by the  gracious presence of Officer of UAHS, Shivamogga, Dr. P. Narayanaswamy, Registrar, Dr. T.H. Gowda, Director of Extension, Dr. B.R. Gurumurthy, Director of Research. Progressive Farmers Sri. Bantakal Ramakrishna Sharma,  Sri. B.V. Poojary, Sri Gunapal Kadamba,  Sri Sathish Kumar Shetty  and  Sri Shambhu Shankar Rao will grace the occasion. 

During Krishimela, organizers have arranged field visits to various IFS component units in addition to exhibition stalls.  First day, in the afternoon session a seminar on “Scientific Cultivation  of  Cashew, Cocoa, Pepper and other plantation crops” is arranged. Seminars on “Integrated farming system for higher  returns” and “Mechanization and  technologies for  reducing  cost of cultivation in paddy crop” are  also arranged on the second day. The above seminars will be delivered by the eminent scientists of UAHS, Shivamogga, scientists of other elite national institutes and progressive farmers.  During Krishimela farmers can also interact with scientists freely to clarify their field problems.

            In addition to this, about 150 entrepreneurs are expected to put up their stalls to showcase the  modern agricultural technologies and advanced farm machineries.  The organizers have requested the farmers to participate in large numbers and avail the benefits of Mela.  The main attractions of this Mela comprises -    

ü  Fodder production for dairy animals through Hydrophonics

ü  High yielding rice varieties and seed production

ü  Preparation of Dapog nursery and SRI method of paddy cultivation

ü  CO-4 Fodder grass demonstration

ü  Multi storied cropping system and nutrient management in coconut and Arecanut

ü  Cashew grafting and soil and water management in cashew gardens

ü  Demonstration of organic manure compost, vermi compost and azolla

ü  Dairy, Poultry, Goat, Rabbit,  Duck, Piggery and Fisheries demo units

ü  Exhibition and demonstration of agricultural implements

ü  Demonstration of value added food products

ü  Exhibition and sale of decorative nursery plants.

There will be 150 stalls at the exhibition organized on the mela grounds. Other attractions include fodder production for dairy animals through hydrophonics; high yielding varieties of rice and seed production; preparation of Dapog nursery and SRI method of cultivation, among others.

He said that Priyanka Mary Francis, Deputy Commissioner of the district will inaugurate the mela. M. K. Naik, Vice Chancellor of UAHS will inaugurate the exhibition.
