Police detains the protesters at Sasthan Toll Plaza

Print Udupi : Rashtriya Heddari Jagrathi Samithi members and villagers held protests at Sasthan Toll Plaza against the toll charges by Navayuga Company here on Monday, November 26.
The Navayuga Construction Company started to collect the toll charges from Monday 26 which the local villagers as well as Rashtriya Heddari Jagarathi Samithi objected that the NH 66 road constructed with unscientifically and not constructed the needed service roads, flyover, pedestrian over – bridge and underpass. The contractor Navayuga company is collecting toll charges without any of these facility.
The protesters said that the four way road constructed in order to reduce the accidents on the highway. But the accidents are taking place now and then always due to unscientific road construction. At least local vehicles should be exempted from toll charges.
The protesters raised slogans against the Navayug company and to stop collecting the toll without fulfilling their demands. The protesters demanded exemption of the toll to KA - 20 vehicles at Sasthan toll plaza with immediate effect.
The protesters tried to block the national highway. More than 200 policemen gathered on the NH 66 Sasthan Toll plaza along with Additional Superintendent of Police Kumarachandra, DySP Jai Shanker and Udupi Taluk Tahasildar Pradeep Kurdekar were present. The protesters detained after they tried to block the road.
