Udupi : The District Police have written to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to install traffic signal lights at three important junctions on National Highway 66 in Udupi district.

Speaking to media persons during the phone-in programme organized at District Police office on Friday, December 14, Laxman Nimbargi, Superintendent of Police said that the three junctions were Ambalpady Junction and Santhekatte-Kallianpur junction in Udupi CMC limits and Katapady junction at Katapady near Udupi.

He said that due to heavy vehicular traffic and public movements, the installation of signal lights had become essential at these three important junctions which deploying policemen to control traffic at these junctions would not help much. Hence, the request had been sent for installation of signal lights for these three junctions in the district on NH 66.

In order to get its approval, the NHAI will have to forward the proposal sent by the police to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and National Highways. The installation of signal lights had been completed by the NHAI at a few places on National Highways in Mangaluru in D.K. district, he said.

To a query, SP said Karkala teacher who had allegedly sexually abused a minor girl student at a private school in Karkala sent to judicial custody under POSCO act. The video clip of the alleged incident has gone viral in the social media. He said the school administration filed a complaint against the teacher. The school administration also filed a complaint against a local TV channel and Website media for published the video related to a minor girl.

SP said a special team had been formed to crack the case of robbery of a senior citizen at Laxmindra Nagar in Manipal when he was on a morning walk on December 2.

A total of 21 calls received by the SP in hour long phone-in programme which most of the calls in relate to traffic of vehicles issues.
