Udupi : Priyanka Mary Francis, Deputy Commissioner of the Udupi district in reply to query by media persons at her office, Rajathadri on Wednesday, 26th December, said that missing fishing boat “Suvarna Tribhuja’ of Malpe went for deep sea fishing with eight fishermen is not traced even after 12 days and other fishermen have expressed fears that the missing boat might have hijacked.
She said to media persons that if the boat had sunk, there must have been some debris. No such debris or clues of sinking are found so far even though severe search operations by the coast guard, police, Helicopters and other ways. This might be a case of hijack.
She said that the fishing boat called ‘Suvarna Tribhija” left late night from Melpe Fishing port on December 13 with five other boats. Till December 15 around 1am there was contact with other boats. Later other five boats and several boats began searching for Suvarna Tribhuja boat. Other boat fishermen thought that it might come to Malpe shore on December 22. But, there was neither clue about the boat either anchored in fishing port at Malpe nor any other clues. Then, other five boat fishermen complained to the police on missing the fishing boat.
DC said that in the missing boat, there was seven fishermen, out of that two each from Melpe, Bhatkal and Kumta and one is from Manki near Karwar.
More than 350 fishing deep sea fishing boats have been anchored in m Malpe port due to missing of Suvarna Tribhuja boat. Those the boats returning to the Malpe port after venture of deep sea fishing are not going for further next venture of fishing.
