District administration to organize Alupotsava, Heritage Walk and Folklore festival from January 25

Udupi : The district Administration along with Udupi Tourism Department will organize Alupotsava, Heritage walk and Folklore festival from January 25 to 27 at Barkur, near here.
Speaking to media persons at DC office, Priyanka Mary Francis said that cultural herigage is a reference point to our past. It would help us to understand our history and ancestry that binds us together. At the same time it would be an integral part of our present and future. Barkur is a city of Metropolitan antiquity, she said.
Priyanka said that Barahakanyapura is the original name of Barakuru, the capital city of Alupa. Barkuru has a long history of more than 2000 years, it was a busy port from the beginning of Christian era. It was the capital city of local dynasty called Alupas. It was a political centre under the Hoysalas. Barkuru was the provincial capital under Vijayanagara rulers.
She said Heritage Walk will commences from Simhasana Gudde (Palance of Alupa dynasty via Pancha Lingeshwara temple, Batte Vinayaka temple, Gopalakrishna temple, Somanatha temple, Manigara Keri, Aadi Parameshwara Basadi, Katthale Basadi and temple, Chowlikeri, Baira Ganapathi and Mahaligheswara temple, Cholikere, Barkur Vijayanagara Fort, Someshwara temple, Moodukeri, Veerabhadra temple, Modikeri, Hirya Basadi and Kalikamba temple, Kallu Chappara which will be last point covering 3.5-4km touching 17 heritage points. She said even Keladi Nayaks also had Barakuru as their centre of activities. The aim of Heritage walk is to preserve the rich heritage of Barakuru so that it can be passed on to next generation. Heritage walks are best way to learn and recognize our culture, traditions, philosophy, myths and Barakur trial would help us to know Tuluva culture.
She said that there are 366 temples and more than 30 Mutts in Barkur as per the available records. The Heritage walk will begins from 8 am on 25th January, 2019.
Various cultural events will be organized in all three days. In the evening of January 25, Fruits and Flower show and other exhibition stalls to be inaugurated at 5.30 pm. Stage programme will be started from 5.30 pm. The chief minister of the Karnataka is invited to inaugurate the programme, she said.
On 25th during the cultural programme to be started from 7 pm which includes dances, World Music, Yakshagana will be organized.
On 26th at Kattale Basadi lights show and programme on Tulunadu from 5.30 pm. Various cultural programme to be held from 5.30 pm. Folk dances like Kangilu kunitha, Jaggalige, Puja kunitha, Garudi Gombe, Halkki Suggi kunitha and Dolu kunitha, Karadi Majalu, Karaga Kolata, Chende Vadana, Gorawara kunitha, Kodavara Kunitha, Aati Kalanja, Chennu Kunitha and more folkdances will be held.
On 27th January interaction on Alupa dynasty will be organized from 10 am. Meanwhile various cultural and folk dances will be held after 6 pm.
