Udupi : Milagres Cup-2019, an inter school Volleyball tournament for under-14 and under-17 boys and girls hosted by Sports Club of Milagres English Medium Schools, Kallianpur near here on January 22.

The tournament was inaugurated by Bhaskar, Physical Education teacher of St Mary’s English School, Kannarpady by lighting the lamp. In his address, Bhaskar said that Milagres School not only recognized at taluk and district level but also recognized in state level also. Several students participated in national level tournaments also which would be great. Milagres English School has not only giving importance to academic education but also giving more importance to sports and athletics’.

He appreciated whole heartedly that the arrangements made by the school management. We must know the stadium mannerism, it we want to be perfect ideal in the society, we need to be very much thoughtful. Fitness is very important for sportsperson. We should play whichever sports with sportive spirit, then we get the chance to contest in national level sports events, he said.

The Correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions Rev Dr. Lawrence D’Souza said that we have so much hope and expectation from this Volleyball tournament. There are chances to win few and not possibly to win by all. Participation is in itself a reward if some not chance to get win. Winning a prize is not important, but participation is most important. Moreover, one can successful in life, then we need to excel in our activities, he said.

Owen Rodrigues, member of management committee, Sunitha Lasrado, PTA President, Veera D’Silva Headmistress of Milagres English Medium Primary School were present on the dais.

Principal of Milagres English Medium Schools Rev Fr. Lancy Fernandes sj welcomed the gathering and Yaksha proposed vote of thanks. Nova briefed the sports club report and Varsha compered the programme.

The programme was held in two categories. The first category was under – 14 boys and girls, followed by under-17 boys and girls. First, second and third prizes were awarded under each category for both boys and girls. Milagres Physical teachers’ Vincent Mascarenhas, Steevan Pinto and Vinay Shet were present during inaugural and valedictory programmes and supported for the sports event.

Runners-up – Volakadu Government High School, Udupi

Girls Under 17:

Winners – Milagres English Medium School, Kallianpur

Runners-up – Victoria Ladyhill School, Mangaluru
