Udupi : The severe action will be taken against unpaid taxes for their vehicles as per the Motor Vehicles Act. The district has the target of collecting of Rs 140.20 crore by way of revenue during 2018/19 which Rs 121 crore collected up to February and remaining and more revenue of Rs. 121 crore should be reached on or before year ending 2018/19.
Speaking to media persons at his office at Manipal, District Deputy Transport Commissioner and District Senior Regional Transport Officer R M Varnekar on Tuesday, March 5, he said that the target reached up to 90.15%. Around Rs 19 crore of revenue will be collected prior to 31st March, 2019.
Hence the RTO organized awareness to pay taxes in relates to vehicles to the vehicles owners. In order to reach the target seizure of the unpaid taxes vehicles and cases will be registered against vehicles operating permits and wide scale inspections of the vehicles will be undertaken.
He said that RTO also will collect pending taxes by charge sheets have been submitted to the court. 900 vehicles has charge sheeted and 250 vehicles including eight buses, one motor cab, 35 lorries, school vehicles and ambulances are seized since last two months.
He said cases were filed against the permit violation vehicles and collecting the taxes with fine. In January such 181 cases registered and 42 vehicles seized and Rs. 18,56,525 by way of taxes and Rs. 5,79,500 collected by way of fines.
There are total 4,04,026 vehicles registered, out of that 1,05,000 private vehicles. There are 2,36,068 two wheelers are permit holders in the district and 6,619 taxi cabs are operating in the district.
He also said that if a vehicle from other states runs for more than 30 days, they also should pay the taxes in our state.
