Udupi : Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur of Udupi diocese celebrated “Annual Catechism Day” on Sunday, March 10, 2019.

The Holy Eucharist mass con celebrated by Very Rev Fr. Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza Rector of Cathedral along with Rev Fr. Lancy Fernandes sj at 8 am mass.

In his beautiful homily, Fr. Lancy Fernandes pointed out the meaning of Lent and how faithful observe the Lent season for Salvation. Lent is the season to honouring the Sacrifice of Jesus. Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil, Satan. Lent is a time that offers us an opportunity to come to terms with the human condition we may spend the rest of the year running from and it brings our need for a savior to the forefront and Lent is a time to open the door of our hearts a little wider and understand our Lord a little deeper, so that it would an opportunity to receive the overflowing the graces God has to offer.

Lent season is the time to live with the shadow of God. It is the time on the way of life with unity. Lent is an intensely penitential time as we examine our sinful natures and return to the God we have, through our own rebelliousness, hurt time and again. Lent is also an opportunity to contemplate what our Lord really did for us on the Cross and it wasn’t pretty. Lent is a 40 day period of prayer, fasting, rependtene and abstinence during which Christians work to grow closer to God.

Fr. Lancy said that the securing highest mark in Catechism classes is not important. But it is necessary to live in our life with the shadow of God almighty and increase the spirituality in our life as well.

During weekly announcements, the Rector graced good wishes for the Catechism students and gave gratitude to Catechism class teachers for their valuable sacrifices for the students.

Brief programme held after the Eucharistic celebrations. Prizes were distributed to meritorious Catechism students. Honors were also given to Catechism teachers with valuable gifts. The chief coordinator of Catechism classes Smt Eugene Rebello who was serving as a coordinator since seven years’ gave gratitude to concerned people.

Fr Lawrence D’Souza gave gratitude to all concerned like students and teachers. He gave the importance of Catechism classes for the students upto high school level.

Rev Fr. Canute Noronha Asst. parish priest, Rev Fr. Lancy Fernandes sj, Dr Nery Cornelio and Felciana Lewis Vice President and Secretary of parish pastoral council were present.

Earlier Eugene Rebello welcomed the gatherings. Sheela Menezes delivered vote of thanks while Renita Pais compered the programme. Tiffin and ice cream distributed to all the Catechism students and teachers.
