Udupi : Some of the congressmen expressed anger over the party’s decision over offering the Udupi-Chickmaglur seat to coalition partner JD(S) by burning tyres in front of the district Congress office at Nairkere here on Thursday, March 14.

Congress members demanded the party high command to allow the Congress candidate to reconsider the decision to offer seat to JD(S) party.

The district congress committee held an emergency meeting which was chaired by the district Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor at Congress Bhavan late in the evening. Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Kumar Kodavoor said that JD(S) party in the district has no strong base that there have no peoples’ representatives in the Panchayat level and also is not active in Block level. The Congress party has a strong presence even at the booth level. Our party has strong candidates who have supported by the electorate earlier and Congress High Command should take reverse its decision and should be given ticket in the Lok Sabha polls.

The Congress party had organized successive Parivarthan Yatre with huge number of party workers had participated. There have been certain numbers of voters to support congress party. Some of the party candidates elected in the past Lok Sabha elections.

“BJP candidate Shobha Karandlaje faces opposition within her own party and hence there is in a favourable situation for the congress party in Udupi-Chickmaglur Lok Sabha polls”.
