Udupi : The conflicting views of law and justice have as much relevance today. The social value in the society has fallen and the nation pays the consequences, said former Supreme Court Judge and former Lokayukta of Karnataka State, Justice N Santhosh Hegde.

Addressing in his lecture on Fall in Social Values and Consequences thereof at Vaikunata Baliga College of Law here on Monday, March 18, which was organized by Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi and Vaikunta Baliga College of Law here, Justice N. Santhosh Hegde said that there should need to satisfaction and human values in life. But, the situation presently changed and the respect has given to money and power and nothing else. As a whole, the country should give respect the human values and serve the people much better, he said.

After accepting democratic system in the country, the people actually forget the democratic system. The democracy of the country only will be tool for the better society and unity in the society. There were lot of scams for the money and our elected people’s representatives instead of giving services for their respective constituencies, trying to gather power and money, he said.

He pointed out that as per the report during 2004 to 2009, out of 543 members of parliament, only 174 MP’s only asked the questions during the question hour of the Lok Sabha proceedings. Only 22 elected legislative assembly member were present out of 224 members in just concluded state legislative assembly. Either MP’s or MLA’s presence in their respective houses are very poor. Then, what is the use to elect them? He asks.

In 2012 under UPA rule, they brought G.S.T. bill in the parliament. They the opposition completely neglected the bill and that time due to opposition non cooperation the GST bill were slept. But, in 2016, those who opposed the bill in 2012, brought the bill once again and passed the GST bill with certain changes. Nobody bothered about the economy of the country. But need the power and money for elected representatives.

The judiciary system in the country under was threat. What is the reason that sitting Judges of Supreme Court who conducted press meet jointly against the judiciary. The values of the judiciary system fallen very fast presently. Meanwhile, the faith on the media and news also fell due to effect of paid news on the media. We lost moral values today. The role of media for the protection of Indian Constitution has been questionable and hence, the consequences thereof for the citizens of the country to protect constitution fallen sharply, he said.

The youth of the country should solve the problems facing by the nation with using human values in the society. One can contest in the election from the jail and those who coming out by bail from jail will get honour with garlands. The people give respect and honor to those who trying against the human values, he said.

In order to protect our strong constitution, it would be necessary to unite and solidarity among the people of the nation. Humanism and contempt are completely different today. The youth should have minimum courtesy to help the needy citizens. Hence, time has come to change the strategy of human values and humanity, he said.
