Udupi : As per the Election Commission, the filing the nominations of the candidates for Udupi-Chickmaglur Lok Sabha Constituency already started on March 19 from 11am to 3pm. The last date for filing the nomination papers on Tuesday, 26^th March, 2019. No nomination papers received on fourth Saturday of the month March 23 and due to holiday on March 24. All nomination papers of the candidates will be accepted at Chief Election officer and Deputy Commissioner of the Udupi district. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on Wednesday, March 27. The last day for withdrawing nominations is Friday, March 29 up to 3pm.

Speaking at the press meet at DC office on Tuesday, March 19, DC Hephsiba Rany Korlapati said that the election will be held on Thursday, April 18 between 7 am to 6pm. The counting of the votes will be held on Thursday, May 05. During the filing nomination papers, the candidates should pay the deposit amount of Rs 25,000 for common candidates and for SC/ST Rs. 12,500 along with caste certificate. The total expenditure per candidate has been Rs 70 lakh.

DC also said that along with the nominations, each candidate should file their income tax statement of five years instead of one year. Meanwhile the candidate should also mention the criminal cases if any against them and also the punishment thereof if any, she said.

She said all necessary arrangements have been made at the polling booth stations. Without proper documents no person will carry more than Rs 50,000. Permission should be taken for the any social programmes compulsory. The sound system can use between 6am to 10pm only. In order to monitoring the expenses of political parties, expenditure monitoring cell and assistant expenditure observer has appointed for the purpose, she said.

In relation to the election, for complaints or violations of model code of conduct, control rooms are opened at all taluks level. In relate to violations of model code of conduct, public can use C-VIGIL Mobile App which is developed for the election purpose to give any complaints. Public can complaint with photo or video if model code of conduct in relation to the election, she said.

She requested through media to public that to cooperate for smooth, fair and peaceful election.

After the election date declared due to violations of model code of conduct, 92 wall writing, 781 banners and other 1230 removed. The unaccounted cash of Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 17.68 lakh worth liquor had been seized, 1971 defacements at public properties have been removed.

DC said that the candidate should open a separate bank account to explain the expenditure, how much they have spent for the campaigns in relate to election. The candidate along with agents if any should open new bank account individually of a joint account one day before the nominations, she said.

Prohibitory orders around a 100 mtr radius of the DC office under section 144 will be in force from March 19 to March 26 from 10 am to 5 pm. Instructions have been given to the representatives of political parties on the guidelines to be followed strictly while filing the papers. Only five persons including candidate will be allowed while filing nomination papers in DC office chamber. The public should cooperate with the concerned authorities during the filing of nomination papers, she said.
