Udupi : Amrith Shenoy P, Independent candidate in the Udupi – Chickmagaluru Lok Sabha Constituency said that he was contesting the election to send a message to the Congress high command  that it should not take party workers for granted.

Addressing media persons at Udupi Press Club here on Wednesday, March 27, Amirth Shenoy said that he met several leaders of state and the AICC members and approached them and impressed upon them the need for retaining the Udupi-Chickmagaluru seat with Congress party. Since five years’ the sitting MP has completely failed to reach out the people the constituency and Shobha go back campaign by their partymen has the witness about that. But the congress party had surrendered the seat to the Janata Dal (Secular) without consulting the congress workers.

Pramod Madhwaraj, Senior leader of Congress had met the former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda and chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and succeeded to get Janata Dal (S) ticket, he said.

Amrith Shenoy said that since very long years he worked for the needy and for the party with honesty. He was a secular person who would take all sections of society together. The interests of the weaker sections of the society should be protected. More than the development issue, it was religious aspects which played major role in the elections. Both the Union and State governments had filed in fulfilling the aspirations of the people at large.

Amrith Shenoy said that if he elected he would stand up for interests of the common man. He had well known social worker in the society. Hope he will win in the election. I will resolve the several problems facing by the people like sand problem, missing of fishermen etc. He asks votes people for their social development. I was associated with several associations here past.  My large numbers of fans need to contest in the election in Independent seat, he said.

To a query, Amrith Shenoy said that he would not withdraw his nomination papers. I would resign from the AICC member soon. Obviously, Congress will take action for anti party activities and suspend from the Congress party membership.

Ta a another query, Amrith Shenoy said that Pramod Madhwaraj visited me at my house and tried to say something to go back from the candidature of the election. He never offered me any amount in the visit for the purpose. I have great respect to Pramod Madhwaraj, he said.

Due to large expenditure for contesting the election, need finance from the government. Hence he planned Jatha for collection in Udupi city, he said.
