75.91% total turnout of Udupi-Chickmagalur Parliamentary polls - Korlapati

Udupi : The voter turnout in Udupi – Chickmaglur Lok Sabha Constituency was 75.91% during 2019 parliamentary polls while during the 2014 parliamentary polls was 74.46%, said Chief Election officer and Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district Hephsiba Rani Korlapati.



Addressing to media persons at her office on Wednesday, April 25, she thanked all concerned election officials, police, district administration officials, media and all members of public for safe, fair and peaceful parliamentary polls.

 She said total 15,13,231 voters in Udupi district, out of which 11,48,700 voters casted their votes in 1837 polling stations. In Byndoor legislative constituency of Shivmogga Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency out of 2,26,587 voters, 1,70,460 voters casted their votes in 246 polling booths which is 75.23%.


She said 80% of voters had used the Electors’ Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) in the five assembly constituencies of Udupi district. The rest of 20% of voters had used one of the 11 documents permitted by the Election commission. The number of voters who used EPICs was 954670 which wide use of EPICs was a positive sign, she said.

The 40 Sakhi booths had been set up in Udupi-Chickmagalur parliamentary constituency had registered a voter turnout of 72.05%, while the four booths manned by persons with disabilities had recorded a voter turnout of 75.85%. The three ethnic booths had witnessed a voter turnout of 80.59%.

She said that there were four tendered votes recorded in the parliamentary constituency while one challenged vote was recorded. In order to successful election, total Micro Observers 321, video cameramen 42, Webcasting cameras total 84 and total officials were 7916.

After the model code of conduct had come into force in the district, 15 cases were registered and an amount of 25.3 lac was seized. The entire amount was released after requisite documents were produced.

Korlapati said that of the 273 cases registered in CVigil app, as many as 225 cases had been disposed while 48 were dummy cases. As many as 211 cases were disposed in 100 minutes.

She said the district administration had tried to make this an eco-friendly poll by insisting that the political parties used banners made of cloth instead of plastic and other eco-friendly materials. All political parties and other contenders had cooperated with the directions of the district administration, she said.

Nisha James, District Superintendent of Police, said that after the election all EVMs had safely brought to St Cecily’s School at Brahmagiri counting centre here and kept in top security rooms. There were three layers of security around the counting centre that CRPF, KSRPF and local policemen under the leadership of Jaishankar, DySP, Udupi.

As many as 105 CCTV camaras had been installed on the premises of the counting centre at St Cecily’s school. The entrances to the centre had metal detectors installed. An anti-sabotage squad too had been pressed into service on the premises of the counting centre, SP said.
