Udupi : District Muslim Okkoota organized Eid Get-together with all religious leaders in Kaup Poovaniguttu Kripni Muddanna Shetty Memorial Hall here on Thursday, June 27.

The programme began with invocation prayer. Mohammed Yashin Malpe, President of district Muslim Okkoota welcomed the gathering. In his key note address he pointed out the necessity to organize the all religious leaders Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations which would be betterment of our society. This is not the religious occasion. But it is the gathering of all religious leaders on the occasion of celebrating one of the festivals of Islam, Eid-ul Fitr. It would be the occasion of different religious leaders’ views and understanding with each other.

Mohammed Yashin Malpe said that Muslims, Hindus, Christians and others are capable of living peace together like they have done for centuries in India. We were all helping each other in our society with peace and harmony. This is what we believe the religion. It would be also our dharma to live with unity and peace. We had to look around very little in order to find beautiful examples of religious harmony.

Now in our country, such situation changed. In present situation in the country, they will be divided by mischievous and malignant elements in society. We had to look around very little in order to find beautiful examples of religious harmony in India today. Earlier years, where people from different faiths came together in the spirit of humanity, celebrating India’s diversity and rich heritage of tolerance.

He said a negative approach or action of intolerance is where one person or a group does not accept others’ point of view or belief, rather disregards it for being different. This could be on ritualistic or religious grounds or could be in conflict with our own faith and beliefs and its consequence might produce effects on the country and society. He pointed out the recent incident of lynching of a youth in Jharkhand is an example of religious intolerance.

He said as per a report, India ranks as the worst country when it comes to religious freedom. While our country always been a diverse country in terms of culture and religion, since few years India has been growing in terms intolerance.

Hence, in our district we have different faiths; we are living in peace and harmony along with other faiths. We are bound to restore our faith in humanity and the country. There shall be need to the examples of friendship, love and harmony. In order to keep our friendship or sauharda, we are organizing get together with other faiths, he said.

Meanwhile political leaders, entrepreneurs, religious leaders, community leaders and other thinkers were speaking during the occasion. Vinay Kumar Sorake former district in-charge minister, Gopala Bhandary former MLA, Veronica Cornelio, Dr. P. V. Bhandary, retired lecturer Alban Rodrigues, Dr. Karunakar, Smt. P. Acharya, Aroor Madhav Shetty, Dinakar Shetty Indrali, Inna Udayakumar Shetty, B. S. Safruddhin and others spoke.

Mohammed Moula Secretary of Zilla Muslim Okkoora welcomed the gatherings. Abdul Aziz Udyavara compered the programme. Katpady Ismail Hussain delivered the vote of thanks. More than 600 people of various faiths were participated in the get together and fellowship meal.
