Udupi : Udupi Taluk Provident Fund Pensioners’ Association organized protest meet in front of Provident and Pension Fund office building here on Wednesday, July 31.

Umesh Kunder Secretary of Udupi Taluk Provident Fund Pensioners’ Association addressed to protesters’ said that many people are getting pension starts from Rs 340 and goes up to Rs 2000 per month. Those who worked more than three decades get only Rs 2000. There is immense surplus money in provident fund account. This money is being used in the share market. The government is spending lots of money to various schemes.

He said that we have continuously working in Beedi Industry since more than 30 to 40 years. Every month from our salary deducting for the provident fund from our companies and institutions and deposited in provident fund. The reason behind to give our contribution to provident fund in order to we are getting pension after our retirement at 60 years of age. We are not rich persons. Due to lack of education, there may be difference of date of birth while we joining in the company or institutions. Later it might possible to differ the date of birth in Aadhar Card. Presently, Aadhar card is very important and government has made compulsory. Moreover, the date of birth not correct entered in PAN card also. While entering the date of birth in Aadhar card or PAN card differ to entering during the joining for work in company. Provident Fund officials are neglecting our application because of all these problems.

Hence, we demand the Provident Fund officials that whatever we gave the amount for the provident fund should be given back for us after our retirement. On the date of birth case, we demand that should give us the concession for the same, he said.

He said our first and foremost demand is to increase the pension amount to a minimum of Rs 6000 per month. There is acute inflation in the economy. Rs 6000 per month will help people lead a normal life. Government should consider the needs of the poor people, he said.

Vishwanath Rai, President of CITU District Committee said that the unorganized workers and beedi workers are contributing more to the economy of the country. A pensioner should get half pension before 50 years and full pension after 50 years of age. There is a need to unite all pensioners. The government is investing dearness allowances in share market, he alleged.

Balakrishna Shetty also addressed during the protest march. The memo to Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given through the Deputy Commissioner of the district at Manipal.

Balakrishna Shetty , Vishwanath Rai, Dayanand Kotian, Raviraj, Lalitha, Sundari and others were present during the protest.
